Position Summary Under general direction, protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities. Prevents illness and injury. Alleviates suffering through the diagnosis and treatment. Advocates for patients and their families. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care. Position Responsibilities
Unit Specific Position Responsibilities Provides post partum cares for mother/baby couplet. Provides care in Labor & Delivery and scrub & circulating in the operating room, if needed. Practices the 10 steps to being baby friendly and promotes breastfeeding. Participates in cross training through the orientation process to several skill sets including Labor and Delivery, postpartum and scrub & circulating in the operating room. Performs according to AORN standards and recommended practices. Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors for breaches in aseptic technique. Performs in circulator role, caring for patient and assisting physicians during surgical procedures. Performs in scrub role, setting up sterile field and assisting physicians during surgical procedures. Provides education, orientation and mentoring to new staff, students and other hospital employees. Performs related work per orientation and position competency checklists and skills validation. Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):

Licensed as a Registered Nurse and authorized by the State of Iowa to practice nursing or has active multistate license approved by the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Achievement of Baccalaureate degree in nursing within 6 years of hire if hired after January 1, 2014. Basic Life Support (BLS) training, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. Mandatory Reporter training or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification within 90-day introductory period. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification within in one year of hire. Organizational Requirements: Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing. Professional certification in nursing specialty.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience: Proficient in communication skills. Ability to pursue and foster a sense of team and partnership across all disciplines. Ability to communicate effectively, in English, with diverse population groups. Ability to be self-directed, flexible, and able to adapt to change. Ability to communicate effectively in a professional and tactful manner with physicians, staff, patients and/or their representatives. Ability to read and understand chart documentation. Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills. Ability to read, write and understand the English language.
