**Position Summary:**
The Registered Nurse Apprentice (RNA) provides age specific direct patient care based on the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing through participation in the Nursing Process and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. The RNA demonstrates skill in oral and written communication as well as in interpersonal relationships with patients, families and co-workers. The RNA utilizes the case management process to best utilize clinical resources and services provide for a timely and fiscally responsible discharge.
**Essential Functions:**
· Observes and reports symptoms and conditions of patients to the nurse clearly and accurately within appropriate time frame.
· Demonstrates good communication skills with patients, family members and co-workers.
· Assists with the admission of new patients and orienting them and family to the environment.
· Utilizes work sheet.
· Provides accurate report at shift change.
· Practices cost containment and appropriate resource utilization in the delivery of patient care.
· Assists in facilitating timely admission and discharge of patients.
· Staff the discharge lounge and provide patient care as directed.
· Assists in maintaining accurate and current records and prepares reports and records for physicians/nurses as requested.
**Education:**
· High School Diploma or equivalent and must be actively enrolled in RN school pursuing a degree in Nursing documented by transcript.
**Other Requirements**
· Letter of Recommendation from a faculty member from your nursing program. Letter must be submitted within the application with resume.
· **Must be able to attend the December 29** **th** **orientation onsite at Tidelands Health** . Orientation the entire week of Dec. 29th (schedule will be adjusted to accommodate January 1st – New Year’s Day Holiday).
**Experience:**
· RN Student with (documentation of completion of Basic Nursing Skills/Fundamentals) plus Med-Surg rotation. Candidates must receive a minimum “meets standard” rating on the most recent annual or 90-day evaluation, must have received no written disciplinary corrective actions or no more than two verbal counseling or informal counseling sessions within the last 12 months.
**Special Skills:**
· Works with patients, families, physicians, and other health care providers.
· Demonstrates skill in oral and written communication
**Licensure/Certification:**
· **Basic Life Support (BLS) certification** required to be initially completed with the GHS Staff Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the GHS Staff Development Office are approved by Staff development on a case by case basis). BLS Recertification is required every two years.
