7 Main is a Hematology-Oncology unit specializing in the treatment of leukemia. We are the only unit within a 500-mile radius trialing new medications with positive outcomes for patients with AML and ALL. Our patients travel from all over Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and Maryland to receive these cutting-edge treatments.
In addition to treating blood cancers, we also care for solid tumor patients, addressing both disease symptoms and side effects from oncology-related treatments. Each shift begins with a staff huddle because we believe communication is key to success. We collaborate with all departments across the hospital to ensure positive patient outcomes, and we take pride in our relationships with patients and their families.
The staff on 7 Main is engaged and active within the unit, the hospital, and the UPMC system. We have representation on each council and a strong unit-based council. Our passion for our patients is demonstrated through a yearly fundraising event for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS); last year, the inpatient oncology team raised over $5,000! At 7 Main, oncology care, safe patient care, and teamwork are truly in our blood!
Our Registered Nurses work rotation shifts including weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor.
