Registered Nurse, Weekend Neonatal ICU
UPMC
**Are you interested in working at Magnet-designated UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital? Only 7% of hospitals nationwide have achieved Magnet designation - and we’re one of them! For more than a century, UPMC Magee has been caring for women through all stages of their lives, and we are looking for the next talented employee to join our team.**
The Neonatal ICU is a 83-bed Level III critical care facility that provides acute medical, nursing, and respiratory care to critically ill infants; the majority of NICU admissions come from within Magee, however, we do also regularly take transports from other regional hospitals. Patients in the NICU may be premature or full-term infants who suffer from a diversity of medical issues including (but not limited to) low birth weight, infectious diseases, congenital anomalies, and Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, as well as various complications during labor and delivery. Previous ICU and/or pediatric experience is preferred; NICU experience is strongly preferred.
**What can you Expect as a Professional Staff Nurse?**
The Professional Staff Nurse provides highly competent patient care and treatment while demonstrating empathy and a passion for learning. A role that requires independent judgment, fluent communication, and candid partnership, the Professional Staff Nurse establishes relationships with physicians, other care providers, patients, and patients’ families to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.
As a Professional Staff Nurse and a member of the care delivery team, you will set the standards for the level and quality of nursing care and possess authority and accountability for its provision. At all times, you will exemplify a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.
_The Professional Staff Nurse is a valued step in the UPMC nursing career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience._
**What is the Weekend Program?**
The Weekend Nurse must work 48 weekends per year, 24 hours per weekend (either two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts per weekend) between the hours of Friday at 3 p.m. and Monday at 7 a.m. Eligible participants may use up to a total of 96 hours of a combination scheduled and unscheduled Paid Time Off (PTO) and Ill Time Off (ITO) on the weekends for a maximum of eight weekend shifts off in a fiscal year. Holiday scheduling and work requirements will mirror the department’s standard expectations for non-weekend staff. If a holiday falls on a weekend, eligible participants are required to work that day.
Working an extra shift during the week does not offset the obligation to work 24 weekend hours per weekend. Weekday hours are paid at the regular weekday rate. If weekend coverage is not needed on the participant’s home unit/department, the participant must work on another unit within their specialty. A participant cannot substitute a weekday for a weekend day. Participants must be willing to rotate shifts or work steady off-shifts as per unit/department guidelines.
