Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of University Health Services, the Registered Nurse (Part Time) provides direct primary health care and health education in collaboration with the other health care team members.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Independently and accurately collect health information, review past medical history, perform examinations, recognize normal and abnormal signs and symptoms, assess, plan care, and document using SOAP format.
Document nursing actions, communications, and update medical records at each encounter.
Perform minor first aid based on procedures and protocols of the Student Health Center.
Effectively and appropriately triage student emergencies in collaboration with other health care team members. Refer patients as needed for emergency medical or psychological care.
Administer treatments, point of care testing, phlebotomy, Mantoux testing, and medications in accordance with NP medical orders and/or predetermined protocols. Complete the related electronic processes.
Review and document laboratory results. Notify appropriate NP of abnormalities.
Provide independent nurse appointments for students not requiring a provider visit accordance with predetermined protocols.
Monitor and document student immunization requirements.
Provide support, education, and referral for students regarding psychosocial and physical issues in collaboration with the health care team.
Prepare students for examination by performing vital signs and relevant laboratory tests in accordance with predetermined protocols.
Execute nurse practitioner and M.D. orders as per the Nurse Practice Act of the State of NJ.
Learn and integrate new procedures, tools, and technology as needed for role.
Monitor medical and laboratory supply needs on a weekly basis and communicate as needed.
Stock and maintain examination rooms per visit and emergency supplies on a scheduled basis .
Monitor and manage inventory by checking expiration dates, disposing of expired stock, and initiating reorders.
Assist the health care team in monitoring and responding to student communications
Perform administrative tasks including but not limited to front desk reception and vaccine record maintenance.
Maintain all quality assurance and clinical competency testing requirements and records.
Maintain confidentiality of medical information per HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
Work with other disciplines within the university to support academic success.
Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing.
A minimum of three years of professional registered nurse work experience in a college health service or relevant experience.
Current unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse in the State of New Jersey.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications within 45 days of hire.
Computer proficient with specific knowledge of using email, word processing programs such as Microsoft Word or Google Doc, electronic medical records, and database programs.
PREFERRED:
Experience with diverse multicultural groups.
Experience working with quality improvement (QI) methodologies.
