People seek guidance from a Registered Dietitian (RD) for many reasons, whether to maximize wellness, learn healthier eating habits or decrease the risk of chronic diseases.  No matter the reason, you will help these patients develop personal diet plans to achieve their goals. In this role, you will provide medical nutrition therapy specifically to critically ill populations based on their unique nutrition needs. You will work closely with fellow caregivers to develop an effective treatment plan and optimize their healing experience. This role offers an excellent way to better the lives of patients every day, all while finding your place within an innovative healthcare system. 

 

A caregiver in this position works 8:00am - 4:30pm.  

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

If delegated with 75% or more of patient care duties to patients of intensive care units or members of the Home Parenteral Nutrition, Center for Gut Rehabilitation and Transplant or Nutrition Support Teams, provide direct care using medical nutrition therapy for patients requiring nutrition support therapies (parenteral nutrition, enteral nutrition, intravenous fluid with multiple diet modifications) and in which medications are an integral component in the design of the nutrition therapy.  

Assess patients for signs and symptoms of nutritional deficiencies and perform a nutrition-focused physical exam.  

Evaluate nutritional needs, including calories, protein, fluid and electrolytes to diagnose and document malnutrition. 

Collaborate with providers to manage the nutritional needs of patients receiving oral diets, tube feedings and parenteral nutrition.  

Implement a nutritional care plan, communicate plan, establish a follow-up system and maintain documentation. 

Write orders for diets, oral supplements, tube feedings and pends parenteral nutrition orders. 

Provide counseling and education services to patients with disease processes requiring nutritional management. 

Support the Dietetic Internship Program as a supervised practice rotation preceptor and class instructor and coordinate activities of Dietetic Technician if assigned to area. 

Develop and contribute to Cleveland Clinic sponsored education programs to physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, students, peers and the public. 

Create and revise education materials related to disease management through medical nutrition therapy. 

Actively contribute to department strategic initiatives, committees and projects. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or a closely related field 

Completion of a Dietetic Internship or Credentialed Program 

Current Licensed Dietitian (LD) in Ohio and active certification as a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RD/RDN) 

Board Certification as a certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) for adult services or Certified Specialist in Pediatrics (CSP) for pediatric services within two years of hire 

One year of experience as a Registered Dietitian in clinical nutrition OR completion of the Cleveland Clinic Dietetic Internship Program or equivalent 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Physical Requirements:

Ability to navigate extensively to provide services to a large number of patients throughout the hospital and clinic sites. Must have manual dexterity to sufficiently perform computer entry and nutrition-focused physical examinations.

Must have physical ability to measure and weigh ambulating patients.

Personal Protective Equipment:
