Job Summary

The essential role of the Registered Dietitian is to provide medical nutrition therapy consistent with patient goals and clinical status and provide regular consultation to the Culinary Services Manager through routine nutrition quality assurance audits in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. Provides recommendations to improve each aspect. Assists in planning, organizing, and enforcing systems to meet Center standards.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities

Complete comprehensive nutritional assessments and individualized nutritional care plans on residents within time frames set by state regulations and Center policies.

Perform Nutrition-Focused Physical Examinations and nutrition interviews

Develop and/or evaluate enteral and parenteral nutrition prescriptions, making recommendations as needed.

Evaluate effectiveness of nutrition interventions and adjust as clinically indicated to support outcome goals.

 Monitor, evaluate, and document in medical records of residents/patients referred. Resident referred means residents/patients who have been identified as being at risk of malnutrition or other nutritional problems, such as unintentional weight loss, poor food intake, or medical conditions that affect nutrient absorption. 

Participate in facility Nutrition At Risk (NAR) meetings to assess higher risk individuals requiring regular interdisciplinary team evaluation.

Participate in various meetings and committees as appointed.

Complete Center evaluation tools as requested and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) tools).

Assist in problem identification and implementation of solutions for residents’ nutritional health and food service areas.

Work with the Culinary Services Manager to assure food service staff are demonstrating safe, sanitary practices, and providing meals as prescribed.

Provide nutrition-related in-services to culinary staff and other staff as required by state regulations or needed by the Center.

Requirements and Qualifications

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Ability to travel and/or attend educational offerings presented by the Center, as well as approved offerings by Association conferences or other entities Ability to taste and smell food to determine quality and palatability. Maintains Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), and continuing education required. Dietitian license and/or certification required to be obtained within 60 days from date of hire as required by state regulations. Must possess an active CPR/BLS Certification and always maintain certification during employment. At least (1) year of long-term care and/or food serviced supervisory experience. Possess skills to organize, prioritize tasks to adhere to clinical expectations, function independently and make independent decisions with minimal assistance. Safe and reliable forms of transportation required to reach facility under diverse weather conditions.
