Outpatient Nutrition Counseling and Community Nutrition Education
Job Overview:
The Wellness Services Registered Dietitian will provide nutrition counseling services across the lifespan for Newark Beth Israel Medical Center s outpatient services department. This individual will work closely with the multidisciplinary care team to provide evidence-based nutrition care. This includes nutrition assessment, development and implementation of nutrition care plans, nutrition education and the ability to adjust dietary planning to individual preferences. Additionally, this position will lead group nutrition education classes at the Rev. Dr. Ronald B. Christian Community Health and Wellness Center and refer clinic patients in the Women s, Adult and Pediatric health centers to services and education provided at the Rev. Dr. Ronald B. Christian Community Health and Wellness Center. The ideal applicant for this position should be energetic and passionate about nutrition education and food insecurity as it relates to the social determinants of health.
Qualifications:
Required:
+ Two year s experience in nutrition education and group teaching is preferred
+ Strong organizational and leadership skills
+ Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
+ Knowledge of food access challenges in the community and federal food assistance programs including SNAP, WIC, SFMNP and CACFP
+ ServSafe certification preferred
+ Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred
+ Education requirements include a bachelor s degree in nutrition and dietetics and a certified Registered Dietitian Nutritionist accredited through CDR,
+ Master s degree in nutrition or public health preferred,

Essential Functions:
+ The Wellness Services Registered Dietitian will report to the Director of Food Access and Social Impact, RWJBH. The RD is responsible for:
+ Nutrition care plans completed to meet the following criteria:
+ Nutrition assessments contain data reflective of patient s nutrition requirements relative to their age and medical condition.
+ Applies knowledge of growth and development over the life span to provide appropriate nutrition care to prenatal, adult and geriatric patients.
+ Drug/Nutrient interactions are addressed and appropriate education is provided.
+ Nutrition education needs of patients are identified, provided and documented.
+ Documents appropriate nutrition history and nutritional care in writing in the EMR.
+ Completes nutrition assessments while providing the highest quality service and follows up in a timely manner as per policy and procedure. Demonstrates effective time management skills.
Maintains competency in medical nutrition therapy through continuing education and demonstrates professional commitment and growth.
Provides group nutrition education for adult and geriatric populations at the Rev. Dr. Ronald B. Christian Community Health and Wellness Center as needed.
Participates in the teaching experience for dietetics students.
Maintains or collects data for performance improvement as directeted
Skills needed for this position include:
This role requires experience and skills required in both a clinical and community setting. The ideal candidate would be able to adapt to both settings and adjust to the needs of patients and community member for education and nutrition therapy. The candidate should have strong understanding of the social determinants of health and public health issues.
Education requirements for this position include a bachelor s degree in nutrition and dietetics and a certified Registered Dietitian Nutritionist accredited through CDR. RDN with 3+ years experience in clinical dietetics and/or nutrition counseling preferred. A master s degree in either nutrition or public health is a plus.
