Regional Manager, Drill Services

Position Description:

Barrick has an opening for the Regional Manager, Drill Services. The Regional Manager, Drill Services is responsible for the operational performance, safety, cost control, and technical effectiveness of all drilling activities across multiple mine sites within the region. This includes grade control drilling, exploration drilling (where applicable), dewatering wells, and specialty drilling programs.

This role provides strategic oversight of drilling contractor management and contributes to the implementation and continuous improvement of the Barrick Global Drilling Standard, with a strong emphasis on health, safety, and operational excellence

Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

Oversee all regional drilling operations, including:Underground development drilling.Grade control and infill drilling.Exploration and resource definition drilling.Dewatering and geotechnical drilling support.Specialty drilling programs required by the operations.Provide technical governance of drilling programs to ensure safe, fit-for-purpose execution aligned with industry best practicesEnsure alignment of drilling activities with short- and long-term mine plans.Monitor and improve key productivity metrics (penetration rates, utilization, availability, cost per meter/foot, drill factor).

Safety & Compliance

Lead and enforce HS&E performance across all drilling activities, ensuring compliance with Barrick standards and contractor requirements.Maintain and support consistent application of the Barrick Global Drilling Standard across operations.Lead a strong safety culture consistent with MSHA (U.S.) or applicable jurisdictional regulations.Oversee contractor safety performance and compliance audits.

Investigate drilling-related incidents and implement corrective actions.

Asset Management & MaintenanceDevelop and execute regional drilling equipment strategy, including:Fleet sizing and optimization.Capital planning and replacement schedules.Standardization of drill rigs and support equipment.Coordinate drilling programs and rig movements across Barrick sites to ensure efficient and compliant delivery.

Cost Control & Budgeting

Develop and/or review regional drilling budgets (OPEX and CAPEX).Analyze cost per meter/foot drilled and identify cost-reduction opportunities.Evaluate owner-operated versus contractor drilling models.Negotiate and manage drilling service contracts and vendor agreements.

Contractor & Vendor Management

Own drilling contractor management, including bid evaluation, scope development, contract execution, and performance oversight.Establish performance KPIs and service-level expectations.Manage supplier relationships and strategic sourcing initiatives.Evaluate regional synergies with drilling contractors to ensure best performance and cost effectiveness.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Coordinate with:Mine Planning to ensure drilling aligns with sequencing and production targets.Geology for grade control and resource drilling priorities.Geotechnical teams for specialty drilling requirements.Processing and metallurgy teams to improve fragmentation outcomes.Participate in life-of-mine planning discussions where drilling strategy influences cost and productivity.

Team Leadership & Development

Oversee Drilling Services teams, administrators, and contractors, promoting a strong safety culture and accountability.Drive technical development within Geology and Drilling Services through coaching, training, and standardized drilling practices.Implement workforce planning and succession strategies.Promote operational discipline and performance accountability.

 

Qualifications:

10–15+ years of progressive experience in mining drilling operations (open pit and/or underground).Minimum 5 years in supervisory or regional leadership capacity.Strong knowledge of drilling systems (rotary, reverse circulation, diamond core, sonic, well development, etc.).Experience with contractor management and capital budgeting.Working knowledge of regulatory frameworks (MSHA in the U.S. or equivalent).
