Overview:
Amazon Data Services India Private Limited (“ADSIPL”) is growing rapidly, and we are looking for a Data Center Environmental Manager to join our expanding Environmental team.
The India Environmental Team is seeking an experienced Regional Environmental Engineer to provide on-the-ground environmental oversight for data center construction projects across India. This individual will work closely with the APMEA Construction Program to develop and implement program requirements, conduct risk assessments, and ensure environmental compliance throughout the construction lifecycle from design through to operations
Key Responsibilities
1. Construction Environmental Oversight
• Provide on-the-ground assessment and oversight of construction environmental risks for AWS data center projects in India
• Complete Construction Environmental Risk Forms during pre-design phase to identify high-risk aspects and drive required management strategies
• Verify all aspects of the Construction Environmental Risk Form are addressed by construction teams and General Contractors
• Conduct environmental inspections using standardized checklists at AWS permitted/owned sites during pre-operations construction phase
• Monitor General Contractor (GC) performance with permit conditions, Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) commitments, and environmental regulations
2. Compliance & Risk Management
• Work closely with India Construction teams and local REE to ensure compliance with all environmental regulatory requirements
• Manage environmental incidents and non-compliances, coordinating responses with regulatory agencies as needed
• Support design and construction phases to maintain environmental compliance, mitigate risks, and improve performance
• Review Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs) submitted by General Contractors
• Provide technical support to construction teams on environmental matters
• Update GC onboarding slides with project specific environmental requirements
3. Incident Management
• Participate in incident investigation, corrective and preventive action development, review and implementation
• Report environmental incidents to appropriate authorities when required
• Manage environmental incidents and non-compliances with permits or regulatory requirements
4. Root Cause Analysis & Continuous Improvement
• Ensure Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) and Corrections of Errors (COEs) are completed on time for environmental incidents
• Verify recommendations from RCAs/COEs are implemented by project teams
• Participate in incident investigations, corrective and preventive action development, review, and implementation
• Proactively identify and resolve issues to prevent incidents and non-compliance
• Drive improvements in construction environmental performance across the India portfolio
5. Collaboration & Program Implementation
• Develop and implement program elements in collaboration with APMEA Construction Program team
• Support REEs with implementing program elements across the India region
• Collaborate with APMEA Construction Program team to implement regional program requirements across India
• Collaborate with Construction Managers, General Contractors, and third-party environmental consultants
• Coordinate with AWS Environmental Legal, InfraOps, Design Engineering, Risk & Resiliency, Real Estate, and other cross-functional teams
• Review design changes (PCRs) during construction phase that may impact environmental performance or compliance
• Provide technical support and guidance to construction teams and contractors
• Participate in vendor/contractor review and vetting processes
6. Documentation & Reporting
• Develop and maintain local documentation and templates in line with compliance obligations
• Prepare and submit regulatory-required environmental reports through Regional Environmental Engineers
• Submit environmental reports and maintain documentation in Procore and other systems
• Prepare and maintain regional/cluster-specific environmental SOPs for operations teams
• Track and report on environmental metrics and program performance
• Provide reporting of program updates, goals and key metrics to business partners including environmental and construction teams
