About the Role

As the Regional Closure Manager, you’ll be responsible for designing and delivering closure strategies across Alcoa’s operations ensuring alignment with environmental regulations, stakeholder expectations, and sustainability goals.

This role goes beyond technical planning. It’s your opportunity to drive real change by bringing together fragmented initiatives, navigating complex and evolving conditions, and building a clear, long-term roadmap for progressive rehabilitation and land handback. Your ability to turn complexity into clarity will help define the future of Alcoa’s environmental stewardship.

As the Regional Closure Manager, you will:

Lead closure planning aligned with DMPE, EPA, the Mines Act, and global standards such as ICMM and ASI.

Embed closure strategies into life-of-asset planning across mining, refining, and smelting operations.

Review site-specific plans for rehabilitation, decommissioning, and decontamination.

Consolidate complex inputs technical, environmental, and stakeholder-driven into long-term strategies that span decades.

Engage with internal teams and regulators to ensure compliance and deliver clear, effective communication.

Contribute to financial provisioning and support closure studies across Western Australian operations.

Define handback criteria and lead structured discussions with stakeholders to support successful land rehabilitation.

What you can bring to the role

A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field.

Extensive experience in mine closure, environmental management, or a similar discipline.

Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks (DMPE, EPA) and closure best practices.

The ability to simplify complexity and communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders.

Experience developing long-term plans with incomplete or evolving data.

Proficiency in project management and environmental monitoring tools.
