Refrigeration Technician

Job Overview
Responsible for monitoring building equipment for safety and repair needs. This role involves troubleshooting refrigeration, HVAC, mechanical and electrical issues; performing repairs; documenting findings; and recommending corrective actions.

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Willingness to work overtime on weekends, holidays and after-hours when on call. Complete daily mechanical checks on all equipment including Mechanical Room systems, roof equipment, HVAC, EMS systems, refrigerated cases and walk‑ins. Maintain and repair refrigeration, HVAC, EMS, electrical and mechanical systems. Perform preventive maintenance tasks, leak checks, inspections and required documentation; maintain CARB and EPA forms in both paper format at the store and electronically in Corrigo and Trakref. Monitor preventive maintenance work performed by outside contractors and notify the Area Refrigeration Manager of issues. Troubleshoot refrigeration, HVAC, mechanical and electrical problems; perform repairs; document solutions; and recommend additional corrective actions. Maintain a high technical skill level across mechanical and electrical systems. Manage communications and respond to service calls in a timely manner. Maintain current licenses, inspections, permits and certificates to comply with all state and local codes. Operate EMS building controls and automation systems, adjust set points and schedules and modify control sequences as needed. Complete administrative tasks such as ordering materials, writing purchase orders and performing data entry for work reports and refrigerant leak reporting via iPad. Perform all duties in a timely, efficient and professional manner. Maintain a neat, clean and safe work environment in mechanical rooms, on the roof, in service vehicles and other work areas.

Job Requirements
(Relevant Experience, Education, Certification, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

High school diploma or equivalent; completion of building‑related vocational or technical programs preferred. Minimum of three years of recent experience in refrigeration service or maintenance within building trades. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. High level of accuracy and care in performance of duties to avoid equipment breakdowns. Ability to respond promptly to direct and radio communications. Maintain a neat uniform appearance, including company‑provided work shirt and employee‑provided clean blue jeans without holes or tears. Ability to wear required PPE, including arc‑flash gear and safety glasses. Computer literacy required. Valid driver’s license required. EPA Section 608 Certification required. Ability to read and understand manuals, prints and work orders. Knowledge of tool use and equipment maintenance. Strong general record‑keeping skills. Strong customer service approach and sensitivity to diverse needs of coworkers and store personnel. Ability to work independently.

Physical Environment

Work performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. Ability to perform manual labor as required. Use of trade tools and standard office equipment throughout the workday. Frequent stooping, bending, twisting, lifting and reaching required.
