Summary
This position will remain open until filled.

About our opportunity:
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Recreation Support Staff in the Parks & Recreation department. Asheville Parks & Recreation provides inclusive programs, services, and events across community centers and parks that promote health, wellness, and connection. This position supports programs, events, and facility operations at Harvest House to ensure a safe, positive, and welcoming experience for the community.
What you’ll be doing:
+ Prepares, organizes, and facilitates daily and weekly activity schedules for community members.
+ May assist in leading group games, crafts, enrichment activities, and recreational programs.
+ Provides excellent customer service and communication to participants, parents/guardians, and community members.
+ Ensures safety rules and procedures are followed; administers first aid as needed.
+ Assists with behavior management of participants and communicates issues to supervisors in a timely manner.
+ Provides program set-up and tear-down for activities, classes, and special events.
+ Supervises rental of facilities and assists with community events.
+ Maintains cleanliness and organization of facility spaces, including incidental janitorial duties such as picking up trash, bathroom cleaning, and emptying receptacles.
+ Maintains a positive attitude and fosters a welcoming, inclusive environment for all participants.
+ Communicates clearly both in writing and verbally with the public and co-workers.
Salary: $17.70 hourly
Work Schedule:
Varies by program and facility needs; may include evenings and weekends.
About you:
We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:
+ At least 16 years of age.
+ CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred.
+ Valid driver's license preferred.
Performance aptitudes
+ Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
+ Ability to learn and apply departmental rules, regulations, and procedures within a reasonable training period.
+ Ability to interact tactfully and effectively with the public, volunteers, and City staff.
+ Ability to multi-task while maintaining safety and strong customer service.
Physical requirements
+ Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
+ Ability to lift at least 10 lbs.
+ Adequate vision and hearing to safely monitor participants and facilities.
