Recreation Specialist Location: West Hempstead, NY Schedule: Full Time,40 hours per week Monday - Friday 1pm-8pm, one weekend shift per month | Status: Non-Exempt |Salary Range: $25/hour The Opportunity Family and Children's Association (FCA) is seeking a dedicated and energetic Recreation Specialist to join our Residential Program that services adolescents with mental health challenges. The Recreation Specialist provides recreational activities to enhance the therapeutic milieu of the Lakeview House Community Residence in coordination with the Social Work Supervisor and the Program Coordinator to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of service to clients as defined by agency policies and procedures. Responsibilities: + Plan, organize, and conduct social, recreational, and cultural activities daily, monthly, and seasonally. + Develop a comprehensive therapeutic recreation plan for the residents to build assets and self-esteem. + Develop community contacts and resources to support social, recreational, and cultural activities. + Implement Medicaid billable services for residents. + Provide individualized skill assessment, instruction, and supervision to the residents. + Accompany, supervise, and provide transportation for activities. + Coordinate the fiscal recreation needs by monitoring the recreation budget. + If needed/requested, assist families in locating resources in their community to help them plan activities for children on home visits. + Model positive interactions with residents and set appropriate boundaries. + Ensure the implementation of all program structure including Program Orientation, Policies and Procedures, Behavior Management Plan, and a Strength's Based Approach. + Assume other tasks or responsibilities assigned to ensure the effective operation of the program Qualifications + BA degree in human services or related field required. (Therapeutic Recreation and National Council Therapeutic Recreation Certification eligibility is preferred) + Must have experience working with children and adolescents with emotional impairments. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Basic computer skills with MS Office + Valid and clean NY Driver's License Compensation The competitive compensation range is reflected with FCA's framework, culture, and values.
