4 Year DegreeThe Town of Garner is seeking a Sports Tourism & Park Manager to join the Recreation & Athletics team in anticipation of the opening of Yeargan Park. This position is responsible for attracting athletic and sports events that boost tourism, economic growth, and community engagement. This role manages the scheduling and logistics of Yeargan Park athletic facilities, ensuring the venues are optimized for tournaments, championships, and recreation programs. Strong partnership development is key, as the manager collaborates with event organizers, sports commissions, and community stakeholders to attract events and maximize facility use. Strong leadership is key, as the manager supervises staff, negotiates contracts, and engages stakeholders to support long-term programming. Success in this position requires strategic planning and data analysis to assess facility performance, enhance event recruitment efforts, and align with municipal goals. Examples of Duties:
Develops and implements strategies to recruit regional and national sporting events, enhancing local tourism and economic growth. Analyzes event success and prepares economic impact reports, using data-driven insights to refine future recruitment efforts and maximize community benefits. Maintains awareness of industry trends and competitor activities, conducting market analysis to identify emerging opportunities and potential partnerships. Evaluates community needs and program effectiveness by working with Town officials, community groups, and stakeholders to determine needs and interests; recommends programs, priorities, budgets, and methods to meet community needs. Collaborates with sports organizations, governing bodies, event organizers, and local/regional sports commissions and CVBs to bring tournaments, championships, and other activities to the community. Develops partnerships with local schools, clubs, and community organizations to expand sports and recreational programming opportunities. Manages rental inquiries and event planning, providing facility tours, cost estimates, and guidance on policies to support successful bookings. Coordinates event logistics and facility scheduling, ensuring smooth operations and optimal resource allocation for tournaments and community activities. Prepares rental agreements and event contracts, ensuring terms are documented and aligned with facility policies. Processes invoices, collects payments, and tracks revenue, maintaining financial records to support budgeting and operational goals. Develops policies, procedures, and protocols for assigned working areas. Seeks sponsorships, grants, and partnerships with businesses to support events and facility operational goals. Develops and executes marketing strategies and community engagement initiatives to promote events, programs, and facilities, ensuring strong visibility and participation. Represents the department and Town at community and regional events, on committees, and in partnerships, strengthening public awareness and fostering key relationships with stakeholders. Develops and administers the division budget; projects revenues and expenses, purchases materials, and maintains inventory of equipment and supply needs. Provides input into parks and recreation capital planning. Hires, trains, and supervises full-time, part-time, and contract staff. Participates in employee orientation, training, scheduling, work assignments, performance coaching, and evaluation. Ensures compliance with local, state, and national regulations, including safety protocols, permitting requirements, and liability considerations for events and facility operations. Develops and implements risk management strategies, identifying potential hazards and establishing preventive measures to safeguard participants, staff, and visitors. Coordinates incident response planning, ensuring staff training and preparedness for emergencies, including weather-related disruptions, medical situations, and security concerns. Provides support to other staff as needed. Performs other related duties as required.
