Description Under general supervision to direct, organize and supervise recreation programs and community events; set up City facilities and equipment; maintain facilities and equipment; follow oral and written instructions. This Class is Assigned to the Following Programs: + Adult Sports + After School + Aquatics + Day Camp + Facility Attendant + Senior Center + Teen Center + Youth Sports Essential and Marginal Duties + Schedule and manage recreation programs, activities and events. + Serve as site leader of program site, overseeing implementation of program activities, procedures and goals. + Develop and implement program curriculum, schedules and timelines. + Supervise other department staff, volunteers and contractors. + Facilitate problem solving. + Develop activities for group recreation and community events. + Develop program objectives. + Prepare and maintain reports and records of program activities. + Set up and break down at City facilities and equipment; maintain facilities and equipment. + Maintain inventories of program supplies and materials. + Provide leadership and instruction in assigned program area. + Assist in conducting program evaluations. + Train other recreation staff and volunteers. + Enforce City, department and program rules, policies and regulations. + Maintain a safe environment in the assigned area/program. + Assist other City staff and members of the public. + Work a flexible work schedule that may include evenings, holidays and weekends. + Attend staff meetings and training. + Maintain professional, courteous behavior toward co-workers, members of the public and all others contacted in the course of work. + Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor in area of assignment. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications + Must be at least 18 years of age. + Equivalent to two years of paid or volunteer work as a group leader or lead worker in an organized recreation or community service program with specific expertise or experience in program area of recruitment. + Certification in First Aid/CPR is required. + In accordance with Education Code 10911.5, employees having direct contact with minors must be fingerprinted and in accordance with Public Resources Code 5163, employees must be free of communicable tuberculosis to perform work for recreational purposes. Applicants selected must pass a physical exam, which includes drug screening and TB testing, fingerprint background check, and submit a work permit, if applicable. Additional Information Physical Demands and Work Environment Work may take place in an environment that will cause exposure to the sun and inclement weather. All work activities are performed in a public facility or outside site. Must be able to see and hear; must be able to prepare written documents; sit and stand for long periods of time; possess an audible voice for communication; ability to lift objects up to 20 pounds; and, ability to move between program sites during work hours.
