Skills and Requirements Rapid prototyping (actual product, not fixtures) Mechanical design (components & assemblies) CAD modeling (SolidWorks preferred) Optical design (basic free-space systems) Hands-on prototyping (3D printing, milling, turning) Lab setup experience (lasers, mounts, stages, etc.) Ownership of full prototype loop: design → fabricate → build → test 5 years of relevant experience 3–5 years’ experience (junior to mid-level) Familiarity with 3D printing and prototyping Industrial design and ergonomic experience Understanding of optics/AR/VR systems Team player, able to work with cross-functional teams Optical CAD tools (Zemax, Code V) Familiarity with suppliers: Thorlabs, Edmund Optics, Newport, McMaster, Digikey Experience working cross-functionally with optical, mechanical, electrical, firmware teams Strong written and verbal communication Self-starter, detail-oriented, thrives in ambiguity
