Rail Freight Specialist – Minneapolis, MN
This is a full time, exempt position
This position will report to the ADM Fertilizer division Logistics Manager
Job Responsibilities:
· Manage and track all fertilizer rail activity within ADM Fertilizer.Coordinate daily rail operations, including scheduling, shipment tracking and issue resolutionCollaborate with the supply chain, procurement, commercial and operations team to ensure alignment of logistics and business needsMonitor and document freight movements using internal and carrier platformsLeverage freight economics between various supply points and rail lines to optimize freight cost savingsEnsure compliance with applicable transportation regulations, customs requirements, safety protocols, and internal proceduresMaintain accurate records and documentation related to rail logistics activitiesAssist in forecasting shipment volumes and aligning rail capacity with commercial needsReview all purchase/sales contracts to ensure optimal service levels and correct executionPartner with ADM terminals to ensure timely arrival and discharge of rail cars to promote efficiencies and minimize subsequent disruptionsContribute to process improvement initiatives within the rail freight functionDevelop strong counterparty relationships with those involved in producing and distributing fertilizer to further add bottom line valueProvide shipping and product specification documents to destinations and customersCommunicate often with Class 1 carriers as well as shortline railroadsDemonstrate knowledge of all parameters and factors to develop a successful supply planAssist logistics team in other areas as neededKey Skills and Competencies:Rail freight coordination and schedulingFreight tracking and documentationTransportation compliance and customs protocolsStrong communication and collaborationData analysis and reportingProblem-solving and issue resolutionTime management and multitaskingAbility to be flexible and change course quicklyAttention to detail and accuracyAbility to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environmentInitiative to brainstorm new ideas or processesSelf-motivated, results-oriented and capable of working independently and in a groupKnowledge of Agriculture/Fertilizer/Rail Logistics (preferred)Education/Training:Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Supply Chain Management, Business (i.e. Economics, Finance) or related field preferred. Must have the ability to analyze data, problem solve and make strategic decisions to improve transportation efficiency.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite applications (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, Access).Position occasionally requires working after-hours on nights or weekends and some travel.Excited about this role but don’t think you meet every requirement listed?
