Job Summary
SummaryResponsible for providing an advanced clinical level of quality patient care while producing radiologic images used for patient diagnosis and treatment. The responsibilities also include completing x-rays effectively and efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of patient care possible in order to provide the most remarkable patient experience.

Essential Function
Determines appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patient's condition to obtain quality images for radiologists; this level may provide an advanced clinical level of patient care.
-Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures which may include transporting, transferring, immobilizing, and position patients
-Explains procedures to patients taking into consideration physical and emotional needs
-Records digital images as directed for radiologist interpretation
-Maintains pertinent records
-Provides radiation protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards
-May provide assistance to new staff in performing Radiologic exams, sterile technique, and proper stocking of supplies in radiographic rooms
-Familiar with C-Arm and operation of pain clinic table

Demonstrates complete working knowledge of all radiographic equipment in department according to established guidelines to ensure safe and effective equipment operation.Provides diagnostic radiographic services for patients of all ages, applying principals of radiation protection and according to department policy and procedure. Contributes positively to meeting departmental goal of a retake analysis of </=5% by achieving a personal goal of </= 4%. Performs positive patient identification prior to starting any examination. Correctly interprets exam request making sure history conforms to exam requested. Processes all patient requests in EPIC and required MGH information systems. Focuses on timely completion of patient processing to optimize results reporting from MGH Teleradiology.Provides patient care and education essential in the performance of procedures, recognizing patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiates life support measures. Maintains knowledge of emergency equipment location and code alert procedures. Ensures that Emergency cart supplies are present and current.Exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures, demonstrating anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and technique selection and evaluates radiographs for technical quality. Assists physicians with imaging procedures and administration of contrast media. Advises/acts as a resource for Rad I staff with regard to image quality. Oversees daily patient throughput in the absence of RAD III; effectively utilizes departmental resources.Acquires and maintains knowledge of related topics to include, but not limited to: radiation safety, contact precautions, hazardous waste disposal, interpersonal/communication skills and proper handling of requisitions, pre and post procedure.Participates in identified professional programs, in-service training, and department meetings.Maintains and rotates supplies/inventory. Ensures that dated supplies have not expired.May provide input on Department supplies and purchasing decisions.Experienced with Digital Radiography,C-arms and all storage systems.Performs visual preventative maintenance checks, assists with quality assurance/ quality improvement projects, records and reports results to Lead Technologist and/or Administrative Director.
