Position: Radioanalytical Chemist – Molten Salt Synthesis
Contract Duration: 12 Months

System One is seeking a skilled and motivated Radioanalytical Chemist for a 12-month onsite contract in Everett, WA. This role focuses on the synthesis, purification, and characterization of uranium-bearing molten salts to support advanced nuclear R&D initiatives. The successful candidate will be directly involved in hands-on laboratory work critical to the development of molten salt reactor technology.
The position requires strong experimental capabilities in chemistry, especially related to high-temperature molten salt systems. The chemist will support bulk salt production and analytical sample preparation while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. A high level of safety, precision, and technical rigor is expected.
Key ResponsibilitiesConduct large-scale laboratory synthesis of molten salts using high-temperature processes
Follow detailed procedures for the preparation and purification of coolant and uranium-bearing salts
Produce batched samples with specific compositions for experimental use
Maintain and operate laboratory equipment such as furnaces, gloveboxes, and pressure vessels
Analyze and characterize salt products using various techniques (e.g., ICP-OES, pXRD)
Contribute to technical reports, presentations, and scientific publications
Maintain laboratory records and ensure compliance with analytical methods and safety documentation
Collaborate with safety personnel to meet radiation protection and laboratory safety standards
Support continuous improvement of processes and research effectiveness
Minimum QualificationsCandidates must meet one of the following:
Master’s degree in Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or a related discipline with 0–2 years of experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 0–4 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications and ExperienceHands-on laboratory experience in chemistry, radiochemistry, or inorganic synthesis
Experience in at least two analytical or process methods: tube furnace operation, pressure vessel operation, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, powder XRD
Familiarity with inert-atmosphere techniques (e.g., gloveboxes, Schlenk lines)
Prior work with actinide materials in gloveboxes or fume hoods is a plus
Demonstrated success working in cross-functional teams on complex R&D projects
Strong technical writing, data reporting, and documentation skills
Ability to interpret and apply technical standards, regulations, and safety protocols
Strong attention to detail, time management, and interpersonal communication
