Day (United States of America)Job Summary:\rThe Staff Radiation Therapist in the Radiation Oncology Department applies ionizing radiation to a diverse population of patients in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. They must be capable of operating radiation-producing equipment utilizing radiation safety measures and be able to perform a series of complex and precise technical procedures.\rCore Responsibilities and Essential Functions:\rParticipates in Quality Control monitoring.\r* a.\tDelivers consistent precise therapy to a designated treatment area.\r* b.\tDemonstrates skill in patient assessment, performing procedures and giving specialty care to patients, considering the age of the patient and appropriately adopts care for age (adolescent, adult and geriatrics).\r* c.\tDocuments appropriately in Electronic Medical Record (EMR)\r* d.\tDemonstrates a willingness to perform additional tasks and gives assistance when necessary to others.\r* e.\tRecognizes own limitations and/or needs and seeks assistance as needed.\r* f.\tReports adverse reactions to physician immediately and follows policy and procedure (P/P) for documentation.\r* g.\tEducates patient/family on expected side effects, use of blocks, wedges and other treatment aids.\r* h.\tFollows P/P to ensure precise treatment per physician prescription.\r* i.\tFollows P/P to ensure precise treatment per physicists instruction in chart or computer.\rUnderstands and completes correctly all patient set-ups\r* a.\tSimulates new patients and/or patients with new treatment fields with no errors and according to physicians written order in EMR.\r* b.\tSchedules patients appropriately and always lets patient know of any changes prior to changes being made.\rFollows proper procedure to ensure safety to self and patient.\r* a.\tAssesses mobility of patients and manages accordingly, looks at EMR for fall precautions.\r* b.\tWears radiation safety badges at all times.\r* c.\tPractices universal precautions.\r* d.\tParticipates in daily warm-up procedures to ensure output is within tolerances\r* e.\tAdvises manager of any discrepancies and any material item that needs replaced or fixed as soon as possible\rMiscellaneous items\r* a.\tWill do other tasks as assigned\r* b.\tParticipates in on-call rotation\r* c.\tIs active as a student clinical instructor with both RTT and RTR students.
