Are you ready to make a meaningful impact in cancer care? We're looking for a dedicated Radiation Therapist to deliver high-quality treatments under the guidance of a Radiation Oncologist. In this vital role, you'll perform simulations, assist with contrast administration, and ensure accurate treatment data entry—all while supporting patients through their care journey.
This is a full-time, 32-hour/week day shift position with rotating hours between 7:00 AM–3:30 PM and 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.

Clinical Operations
+ Perform treatment procedures including simulation, radiosurgery, brachytherapy, and fabrication of immobilization devices and shielding, as prescribed.
+ Collect and document data during simulation; accurately input treatment-related data.
+ Ensure patient safety by consistently following departmental procedures for treatment administration.
+ Identify and report deviations from prescribed treatment delivery to the Chief Therapist or Physicist.
+ Maintain accurate and complete treatment records.
+ Capture portal images to ensure quality and consistency of treatment portal placement.
+ Explain treatment procedures to patients and families; respond to concerns and refer medical questions appropriately.
+ Take localization images under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist.
+ Assist with administration of contrast agents during treatment localization.
+ Observe and report patient reactions to treatments.
+ Reinforce patient education and side effect management; report non-compliance to medical/nursing staff.
+ Maintain a safe and orderly treatment room.
+ Provide on-call coverage as directed by the Radiation Oncology Manager.
+ Support other UPMC Radiation Oncology locations as needed.
+ Demonstrate fluency in all necessary computer applications and information systems.
Student Supervision & Education
+ Assist in the orientation and supervision of students during clinical rotations.
+ Support the Chief Therapist in evaluating student performance.
+ Use effective communication and interpersonal skills to explain treatment-related procedures.
Regulatory Affairs Management
+ Participate in regulatory compliance activities to maintain departmental readiness for inspections and surveys.
+ Adhere to radiation safety standards; wear radiation monitoring and ID badges at all times.
+ Maintain HIPAA compliance.
+ Complete annual clinical competencies as required.
+ Report equipment issues to appropriate site leadership.
Continuing Education
+ Participate in training programs required to maintain ARRT certification.
+ Perform duties in alignment with system-wide competencies and behaviors.
Fiscal Responsibilities
+ Ensure accurate and complete charge capture.
+ Notify site leadership of supply needs.
+ Manage travel expenses in accordance with policy.
+ Use UPMC Cancer Centers resources efficiently.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Quality Improvement
+ Prioritize patient safety through daily and weekly QA activities for assigned equipment.
+ Document and report findings outside the normal operational range to the Chief Therapist.
+ Engage in departmental quality improvement initiatives (e.g., Press Ganey, Chart Rounding, Department Meetings).
+ Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists, Managers, and team members to uphold high standards of care.
Education:
+ Completion of a formal Radiation Therapy Technology program at a JRCERT-accredited institution.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ ARRT Certification: Must be registered with ARRT in good standing or board eligible within six months of hire.
+ Continuing Education: Must maintain 24 CEUs per biennium as required for ARRT certification and licensure.
+ CPR Certification: Required within 30 days of hire, based on AHA standards including both didactic and skills demonstration components.
+ Required Credentials:
+ ARRT Certificate
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
