Radiation Safety Officer - Florida based
Under the general supervision of the Sr. Director of Clinical Practice the **Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)** is responsible for ensuring compliance to Radiation Safety principles and compliance with NRC and state RAM licensing regulations. This includes managing the radiation safety program, identifying unintended deviations and weaknesses, recommending or providing corrective actions, verifying implementation of corrective actions, and, with the assistance of the Office of Quality Management and Regulatory Affairs, staying current with changing requirements. **Specific duties include, but are not limited to:** + The duties and responsibilities of the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) include ensuring radiological safety and compliance with NRC and DOT regulations and the conditions of the license. these duties and responsibilities include ensuring the following: Unsafe activities involving licensed material are stopped; Radiation exposures are ALARA; Up-to-date radiation protection procedures in the daily operation of the licensee's byproduct material program are developed, distributed, and implemented; Possession, use, and storage of licensed material are consistent with the limitations in the license, the regulations, the SSDR certificate(s), and the manufacturer's recommendations and instructions; Individuals installing, relocating, maintaining, adjusting, or repairing devices containing sealed sources are trained and authorized by an NRC or Agreement State license; Personnel training is conducted and is commensurate with the individual's duties regarding licensed material; Documentation is maintained to demonstrate that individuals are not likely to receive, in 1 year, a radiation dose in excess of 10% of the allowable limits or that personnel monitoring devices are provided; personnel monitoring devices are used and exchanged at the proper intervals, and records of the results of such monitoring are maintained; Licensed material is properly secured; Documentation is maintained to demonstrate, by measurement or calculation, that the total effective dose equivalent to the individual likely to receive the highest dose from the licensed operation does not exceed the annual limit for members of the public; Proper authorities are notified of incidents such as loss or theft of licensed material, damage to or malfunction of sealed sources, and fire. 30% + Responsible for regular ongoing communication with customer RSOs, regulatory and oversight agencies. Provides specific communication to the company executive leadership regarding activities or events where patient, team member or authorized visitor health and safety are compromised. + Manages the Radiation Safety Committee and PET/CT steering committee + Function as thestate/ NRC license specific RSO + Oversees the activities of the organization’s license specific RSOs + Conducts regular announced and unannounced site visits to evaluate compliance with radiation safety policies and procedures and regulatory and oversight agency requirements/standards + Other duties as assigned (this would include examples such as your work on the response to the JC sentinel event alert on radiation safety, the CT P and P, membership on quality and safety committees, oversight of research projects) **Position Requirements:** + Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience + Qualifications to serve as an RSO under NRC (state) requirements. Nuclear Medicine certification with either CNMT,ARRT (N), NMTCB or certification in Medical or Health Physics through a recognized certification board. + Five (5) or more years of experience as an Radiation Safety Officer. + Knowledge of Radiation safety principles and practices and RAM licensing and regulatory compliance. Ability to write RAM license applications and amendments. Ability to interact with regulatory agencies to resolve licensing issues or license compliance issues. **Preferred Requirements:** + Master's Degree ​ **Physical** **Requirements:** Standard office environment.
