Job Title

R&D Technician I

Responsible for analyzing and controlling processes and projects in the development/pilot production of high quality ceramics. In addition, responsible for sample preparation, test, and analysis of ceramic or other related materials.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The R&D Technician I manages the intake, tracking, storage, and disposal of all laboratory test specimens and materials in accordance with internal procedures, ISO 17025 requirements, and ITAR regulations. This role ensures complete chain-of-custody, proper labeling, and secure handling of materials throughout their lifecycle. When sample volume is low, the R&D Technician I will assist with general laboratory testing and operational support as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Sample Management

Receive, log, label, and store incoming samples per lab protocols and ITAR requirements.

Maintain accurate chain-of-custody records and ensure traceability in LIMS or manual logs.

Organize and monitor sample storage; coordinate timely disposal in line with retention policies and regulatory requirements.

Compliance & Documentation

Adhere to ISO 17025 and ITAR regulations throughout sample handling.

Support internal and external audits by providing complete, accurate records.

Contribute to updates and improvements of sample handling SOPs.

Cross-Functional Support

Assist with basic lab testing, equipment prep, or general lab tasks during downtime.

Coordinate with lab staff to prioritize sample flow and address submission discrepancies.

Communication

Serve as the customer facing contact for sample logistics.

Maintain clear communication across teams to ensure sample continuity and controlled access to restricted materials.

Job Requirements:

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent plus 2 years related work experience or a Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:

Experience in a laboratory environment preferred.

Experience with computer hardware, peripherals, and troubleshooting software applications preferred.

Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Intermediate math and writing skills required.

Strives to understand ceramic science principles for materials related to assigned projects and contributes appropriate observations.

Accurately uses custom computer system, department-specific software, and manufacturer-specific analytical testing software in performance of job duties.

Must be able to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds.

Exhibits the communication skills necessary to effectively work within a team environment and to communicate with customers.

Must be organized, detail oriented, and self-driven.

Position Specific Physical Requirements:

Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times in work areas.

May be required to handle hazardous chemicals such as acids and solvents.

May be required to wear a respirator (a medical evaluation will be required prior to fitting).

May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

Target Hiring Range

Hourly: USD 20.37 - USD 24.66
