R&D Manager

Sandvik is on the lookout for a dynamic R&D Manager to join our team onsite in Camarillo, California. As the Engineering Manager in our R&D organization, you will lead a high-performing team of engineers and researchers focused on advancing battery technologies and power electronics systems. You will be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of complex engineering projects, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, scientific standards, and budgetary constraints. This role is ideal for a visionary leader with deep technical expertise and a passion for innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:
Provide direction and vision for the R&D team, aligning engineering efforts with long-term business and technological objectives.

Project Oversight:
Estimate costs, resources, and timelines for R&D initiatives. Monitor project performance to ensure milestones and targets are met.

Team Management:
Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers and researchers. Foster a collaborative and innovative work culture.

Technical Excellence:
Guide the team in applying sound engineering principles across battery systems, power electronics, and control systems.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with other departments to integrate engineering solutions into broader company strategies.

Quality & Compliance:
Ensure all research and development activities adhere to scientific standards and operate within established budgets.

Talent Development:
Partner with HR to recruit, onboard, and retain top engineering talent. Promote continuous learning and professional growth.

Risk Management:
Identify potential risks in engineering projects and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful outcomes.

Required Background & Expertise

Candidates should have a strong foundation in one or more of the following areas:

Battery architecture and performance metricsBattery management systems (BMS)Battery manufacturing processesBattery testing and validationPower electronics designHigh-voltage and high-power systemsControl systems for mechanical, electrical, or software-driven systems

Experience & QualificationsProven success in leading engineering or R&D teamsStrong strategic planning and project management skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal abilitiesIn-depth knowledge of engineering principles and practicesFinancial acumen and experience managing budgetsProficiency in engineering design and analytical toolsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related fieldFluent in Microsoft Office Suite
