The Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit offers the full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for all markets and through all sales channels. We provide reliable power distribution grids of today while investing into our Future Grids portfolio and applications to create the power distribution grid of the future. We are looking for an R&D Group Lead to lead a cross-functional engineering team focused on medium voltage power distribution equipment. As an R&D Group Lead, you will be responsible for the management, development, and strategic direction of a diverse team working across multiple product lines within the medium voltage segment. You will play a key role in driving innovation, ensuring product quality and safety, and supporting Siemens' mission to lead the way in sustainable and intelligent power infrastructure. This position will be based on-site in Wendell, NC.
You’ll make an impact as you:
Lead and manage a high-performing R&D team focused on medium voltage power distribution products (e.g., switchgear, circuit breakers, and related systems). Ensure alignment with SI EA’s global R&D strategies and collaborate with international teams. Provide technical leadership, coaching, and support to ensure successful project execution across different product groups. Drive innovation in product design, materials, and processes to meet current and future market needs. Oversee project timelines, resource allocation, and budget adherence. Foster a team culture based on collaboration, accountability, and entrepreneurial spirit. Act as a key interface between R&D, product management, manufacturing, and other stakeholders. Ensure compliance with relevant standards, safety regulations, and Siemens quality processes. Support continuous improvement initiatives and digitalization efforts within product development.You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering. 8+ years of R&D experience, including at least 3 years in an R&D leadership role. 5+ years of experience working with medium voltage power distribution systems and components with a specific focus on product development cycles, industry standards, and testing methods for medium voltage equipment. Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorshipPreferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage complex, cross-disciplinary projects. Excellent communication, collaboration, and people management skills. Strong project management, people leadership, and communication skills. Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement. Experience working in a global, matrixed organization is preferred.You’ll benefit from:
