Job Description
As an R&D Engineering Manager, you will provide disciplined technical leadership within the Innovation Lab department. You will analyze emerging technologies, propose innovative applications for products, and advance active thermal control technologies across multiple domains.
ResponsibilitiesConceive and evaluate machines, systems, and modular architectures.Drive and execute technology development projects in collaboration with product management and engineering teams.Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.Present technical concepts and clarify requirements to global customers.Inspire and mentor emerging talent in both technical and soft skills.Oversee resource planning, budget management, and project deadlines.Identify and manage suitable technology development projects.Make cross-functional decisions to balance conflicting machine/module goals.Oversee patent development and protect new intellectual property.Provide structured department and project reporting.Champion innovation through open-minded, multidisciplinary collaboration.Essential SkillsResearch & development expertise.Thermal analysis proficiency.Control systems management skills.Experience with capital equipment and semiconductor technology.Bilingual capabilities.Additional Skills & QualificationsBS and MS degrees in at least two engineering disciplines such as mechanical, mechatronics, systems, electrical, robotics, thermal, etc.10+ years in engineering design and complex capital equipment development.Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in engineering environments.Proficiency in embedded systems, CAE, MATLAB/Octave, statistics, and reliability engineering.Experienced in product development processes and thermal system design.Strong project management and team leadership capabilities.Effective communication skills with MS Office Suite.Creative, flexible, assertive, and customer-centric mindset.Fluent English; additional languages like German or French are a plus.Willingness to travel globally up to 20%; based in Poway, CA.Preferred: PhD in engineering, experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).Work Environment
The position is 100% onsite with potential travel of one week per quarter to Europe/Asia. Currently, the team consists of three members in Poway, with plans to expand the team to 5-7 members, including two with PhDs. The pay range for this position is $160000.00 - $200000.00/yr.
