Quality Technician

Job Description:

Position Summary:

Responsible for creating the documentation for the quality processes. This position will collect and analyze data and create metrics to measure the results and efficiency of quality assurance procedures. In addition, this position will maintain gage calibration system, assist in root cause analysis and corrective action for non-conformances, assist in continual improvement projects, maintain document control, and quality/technical support as needed.

Essential Functions:

1. Quality Monitoring & Daily Production Oversight

Review and record quality performance of each production shift.Perform in-process and final product inspections to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, and tolerance limits.Identify and document nonconforming products; initiate containment actions and communicate to relevant departments.Support root cause analysis for recurring defects. Train employees on proper gage usage and inspection

2. Corrective & Preventive Action

Collaborate with production teams to develop and implement corrective actions for quality issues.Track and follow up on corrective and preventive action plans to ensure effectiveness.Assist in updating work instructions and inspection checklists when process changes occur.

3. Laboratory Testing

Conduct mechanical, chemical, and dimensional testing of fasteners (e.g., tensile, hardness, plating thickness, coating adhesion, grain glow).Maintain proper documentation of test results for traceability.Ensure lab equipment is operated in compliance with safety and quality procedures.

4. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain accurate quality records, including inspection reports, lab results, and nonconformance reports.Prepare quality trend reports and present findings to management.Support customer audits and internal quality system audits.

5. Continuous Improvement

Participate in quality improvement teams (e.g., Kaizen, 8D problem solving).Suggest process improvements to reduce defects, scrap, and rework.Assist in training production staff on quality standards and inspection techniques.

Other duties as assigned by Quality Supervisor and/or Quality Manager.

Required Skill, Education and Experience

Must have High School Diploma or GED equivalent and three years of relevant experience.Basic reading/writing/math skills.Effective problem solving, ability to focus and prioritize tasks and objectives.Good communication and computer skills.Ability to use and care for precision measuring instruments (i.e., micrometers, calipers, digital indicators, comparators, ring gages, and attribute gages).Ability to read blueprints/ part drawings.Ability to perform moderate physical activity, involving occasional lifting required.Knowledge of basic algebra, geometry, decimals, fractions, and Metric/English conversions.ASQ Certified Quality Technician, preferred.Familiarity with AIAG Core Tools, preferred.Knowledge of manufacturing methods preferred.
