Job Description

Avery Dennison is seeking a Graphics Divisional Quality Systems Engineer based at our Fairport Harbor location that is a highly motivated individual contributor with a drive to learn and develop a system that will detect and contain known quality defects. In this role, responsibilities will include managing and implementing the Graphics vision systems and improving processes and measurement systems to align with the expectations of the OEM market. The successful candidate will work independently with minimal direction to navigate the system software, create recipes connecting the system to material, and develop solutions by utilizing systems and process improvement. 

 

Travel Estimated 10%

Activities may include, but are not limited to:

Technical and Operational support of the vision systems currently installed on Graphics production assets 

Development of new recipes, classification libraries and processes/ techniques that support our vision systems

Improving inspection capabilities, features, and processes for existing recipes 

Collaborating cross-functionally with Engineering, Controls, and IT to support vision system integration with various systems and databases across the site

Educating and driving commitment within the operations team to ensure full utilization of the vision systems.

Creating work instructions as required to enable proper training 

Communicating system progress, capabilities and insights to the leadership and support teams, supporting problem solving efforts with inspection data analytics.

Scoping and leading CapEx projects to expand vision system capabilities on additional assets across Graphics

Developing and supporting custom tools and applications, leveraging inspection data to  solve problems or simplify processes 

Leading external discussions with the OEM to troubleshoot, improve or maintain the vision system 

Reading and interpreting OEM manuals to create logic required for defect detection and recipe development 

Primary owner of all maintenance and calibration required for vision systems 

Aid in the implementation of Automotive Core Tools such as FMEA, SPC, MSA, and Process Capability by evaluating current processes and equipment

Lead ongoing improvement initiatives to meet OEM specified quality standards and customer requirements and developing capabilities to measure with the vision systems 

Ability to flex schedule to to support a 24-7 operations schedule as required for escalations or training 

Perform other tasks or project work as assigned 

Qualifications

Essential:

Bachelor’s Degree in Technical field such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university

2 years manufacturing experience

Demonstrated trouble-shooting and critical thinking skills

Achieves goals with minimal direction and actively seeks knowledge with a keen attention to detail 

Proven capacity to quickly comprehend information from written manuals or complex instruction sets and translate it into effective real-world solutions

Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving experience

Must be able to actively contribute in a team based environment

Must have schedule flexibility for occasionally staying over or coming in early

Basic understanding of Python functions, libraries, & syntax

Basic understanding of SQL & database structures

Basic understanding of Statistics and various statistical tools

Proficient in Google Suite

Self-directed, self-starter

Preferred:

Proficient with data analysis libraries in Python (i.e. pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib, etc,)

Experience with PostgreSQL

Familiarity with Dr. Schenk’s i4.viz & i4.phc applications

Familiarity with Dr. Schenk’s database structures

Familiarity with Industry 4.0 concepts and middleware

Prior experience with recipe development for vision systems

Prior experience applying statistics to draw conclusions from large datasets

Operations experience within Avery Dennison

Additional Information

The salary range for this position is $68k- $90k/ year.

The base salary range above represents what Avery Dennison reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting. Actual salaries will vary within the range, and in some circumstances may be above or below the range, based on various factors including but not limited to a candidate’s relevant skills, experience, education and training, and location, as well as the job scope and complexity, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel required for the position, which may change depending on the candidate pool.
