Quality Superintendent

JSG is hiring a Quality Superintendent in Madawaska, ME. Relocation Available
Reporting to the Technical Director the Quality Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the work of laboratory personnel performing routine testing including planned laboratory work, evaluating performance, and handling any procedural or technical problems that may occur. Take measures to keep the laboratory running efficiently by developing and implementing quality control programs, preparing technical reports on lab activity, and designing work schedules for personnel. Other responsibilities include, implement the quality control system to ensure compliance of both components and product with the set specifications, ensuring the sampling and testing activities are done in the most professional and systematic manner, monitoring and coordinating the activities of employees who are involved in inspecting materials and ensuring they meet the quality standards specified by the company.
Actively supports and promotes safe work practices throughout the mill by being present at safety activities and personally encouraging safe behaviours. Coordinates a monthly safety meeting and performs safety audits. Enforces policies regarding health and safety as well as the environment and ensures that issues are dealt with as efficiently as possible so the work environment is safe for employees. Works closely with sales employees and customer service to ensure quality products are available to customers. Researches quality issues and decides on the disposition of this inventory. Supports tech services with quality issues and dealing with the customer. Ensures department compliance with ISO standards and leads ISO re-certification efforts. Provides leadership and guidance to salaried and hourly employees while promoting employee involvement and participation in problem solving and continuous improvement. Ensures that both salaried and hourly employees have adequate training to support activities of the department and fulfil future manpower requirements. Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, rules, regulations and the collective agreement and implements appropriate measures as required. Ensures that direct reports are informed of Company activities, results, priorities and operating philosophy so activities and behaviours of members of departments are aligned with the values supported by the organization. Attends and supports the daily mill production and participates in other meetings as necessary. Shall have an awareness of the Food Safety Policy, GMP’s, HACCP Principles and Food Safety Standard. #LI-DR1
