Job Title: Quality Specialist Job Purpose: This position is primarily located at Stafford, TX with the occasional need to travel to Houston TX facility. This role serves as a crucial link between the production floor and the broader quality management system. This position responsible for identifying defects but also for understanding their root causes, communicating issues to relevant teams, helping to implement corrective and preventative actions, and working with vendors and customer. Nature of Duties/Responsibilities Inspection-Focused Tasks: This role retains the fundamental duties of a quality inspector. These tasks are critical for identifying non- conformances and ensuring that products meet established standards. Performing Inspections: Conduct thorough visual and dimensional inspections of raw materials, in-process components, and finished products using various measuring and testing equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges. Reading and Interpreting Blueprints: Analyze technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions to ensure products are manufactured to the correct requirements. Documentation of Findings: Accurately record inspection results, including documenting defects, non-conformities, and any deviations from standards. Acceptance and Rejection: Make informed decisions to accept or reject products based on inspection findings and quality criteria. Operating Inspection Equipment: Utilize and maintain a variety of inspection tools and technology, from basic hand tools to more advanced coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). Coordination-Focused Tasks: This role involves managing the flow of quality-related information and activities, ensuring that issues are not just identified but also addressed systemically. Quality System Maintenance: Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS), including creating and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality forms. Communication and Reporting: Serve as a primary point of contact for quality-related matters, communicating inspection results and quality trends to production supervisors, engineers, and management. Prepare regular quality reports and presentations. Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA): Participate in or lead root cause analysis investigations to determine the source of non-conformities. Collaborate with other departments to develop and track the implementation of corrective and preventive actions. Training and Support: Provide guidance and training to production staff on quality standards, inspection techniques, and the proper use of quality-related documentation. Supplier Quality: May be involved in communicating with suppliers regarding the quality of incoming materials and addressing any non-conformances. Audit Support: Assist in preparing for and participating in internal and external quality audits. Hybrid/Overlapping Responsibilities: ( Integration of inspection and coordination duties) These overlapping responsibilities foster a more proactive and holistic approach to quality. First Article Inspection (FAI) Management: Not only perform first article inspections but also coordinate the documentation and approval process with engineering and customers. Non-Conforming Material Management: Oversee the entire process for non-conforming materials, from initial identification and segregation to coordinating the disposition (e.g., rework, scrap, or return to vendor). Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Actively participate in and contribute to continuous improvement projects, using insights gained from inspections and data analysis to suggest process enhancements. Education and Experience Associate Degree or Technical Diploma in Quality or related field preferred. 4 or more years of direct experience and experience with the use of force gages, test fixtures and inspection equipment (such as: calipers, micrometers, etc.). Capable of interpreting engineering drawings. Strong computer skills with MS Office / Google suite experience Must have advanced knowledge of GD&T ASME Y14.5-2009.
