Job Description:
The Quality Manager works with all facets of the organization to understand business requirements, identify opportunities and implement initiatives which deliver solutions throughout the organization which reduce costs, improve productivity, and address the business’ short and long-term needs.
We are seeking a dynamic individual to manage the implementation of the quality assurance / quality control policies in line with company guidelines, and with regulatory and industry standards and ensure that the production process runs in predefined conditions. Proposes improvements and /or development in the area of quality. Deals with opportunities in terms of quality, requires experts’ analyses, proposes and evaluates results of corrective actions. Evaluates the consequences of modifications to the techniques. Informs all concerned about approaches towards quality. Validates and follows the quality assurance contracts with partners. Verifies procedures and specifications and ensures their implementation. Ensures consistency in used technology and regulations.
This position is located in Hillsboro, OH with minimum 2 days travel per week to Troy, OH.
Responsibilities (80% Core Essential Functions)
Establish a relationship with key personnel and leads cross functional interaction within ITW FEG business units towards quality assurance and continuous improvement. Interface and coordinate with Marketing, Engineering, Service, Sourcing, and external customers and other functional groups for smooth implementation of quality plans, procedures and requirements for quality assurance by resolving quality issues and sustaining customer satisfaction. Establish an effective New Product Development (NPD) test and reliability system that ensures new product designs and processes that meet the high-quality standards expected from a Hobart product before being released to production.Continuously review and improve an effective quality management system and achieve quality assurance operational objectives by contributing information and analysis to strategic plans and reviews, preparing and completing action plans, implementing and analyzing quality standards, identifying and resolving problems, completing audits, determining system improvements and implementing change.Must be able to contribute to the Strategic Planning at the highest-level driving and defining ITW’s direction and develop plans to realize our business objectives. Will be responsible for maintaining the company’s competitive advantage and allocate resources appropriately. Strategic thinking is an important skill in this role.Meet quality assurance financial objectives by estimating requirements, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions. Control warranty cost to meet business needs.Develop quality assurance plans and identify critical to quality key characteristics and preventive measures; establish critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures. Support manufacturing with product test procedures, test equipment, and specific quality requirements for product functionality.Prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, recalls, corrective actions, and re-validations.Maintain and improve product quality by completing product, company, system, compliance, and surveillance audits. Investigate customer complaints (warranty tracking) and collaborate with other members of management to develop new product and engineering designs, and manufacturing and training methods.Coordinate product reliability testing and performance testing for new products and modifications to existing products. Verify that reliability, safety and quality is unaffected. Design and review manufacturing sampling inspection plans and testing of manufacturing processes to determine conformance to specifications. Conduct periodic quality assurance assessments of manufacturing processes and facilities to determine adequacy and capability of their systems and processes.Review quality problems with engineering, manufacturing and purchasing functions and coordinate actions required to correct defects or prevent incidences. Prepare periodic performance reports concerning departmental activities, problems, warranty tracking ratings, schedules and 8-Ds reports tracking. Provide and coordinate the technical support to solve problems related to parts design and quality. Ensure adequate and periodic reviews of PFMEA’s, manufacturing calibration and gauge R&Rs, control plans in process and final inspection plans. Ensure manufacturing understanding and tracking of PCN/EPIC changes and specifications.Apply methodology and statistical method analysis of key characteristics for both control and improvement of manufacturing and engineering processes.Determine plans to analyze defective material and source of defects in production. Assist in the investigation of new designs and materials to decrease cost and improve manufacturability, servicing, quality and efficiency. Assist in the research, evaluation and development of alternate and consolidated sources of material. Respond to new product outsourcing needs, including offshore locations and assure conformance to requirements of existing and new finished product sources.Ensure engineering and sourcing changes are effectively implemented in production.Responsibilities (20% Department-specific Core Essential Functions)
Assists with maintaining relationships with regulatory bodies and 3rd party agencies.Partner cross-functionally to provide customer-backed quality solutions, including proactive analysis in understanding customer pain points and driving value-added solutions from a quality perspective.Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quality, or related field7+ years Quality related experience with several at a supervisor level7+ years Background in establishing and maintaining quality systems and processes, PPAP, APQP etc in a manufacturing environment7+ years SPC BackgroundSkills/Abilities
Knowledge and experience in test design and methods, instrumentation and data acquisition, reliability and product life analyses, requirements interpretation, failure modes and effects analysis, statistics, design of experiments, problem solving methods, and warranty and returns analysis.Understanding of quality engineering support and leadership required for New Product Development.Analytical/ problem solving skills, sound decision-making skills and conflict resolutionAbility to systematically gather information, sort through complex issues and make timely decisions.Ability to effect broad change within the divisionAbility to build effective relationships internally and externally to the organizationProject management skills with internal and external teams.Effective trainer with demonstrated background teaching problem solving skills and continuous improvement principlesAdept listener with excellent written and verbal communication skillsCreative thinking, adaptable, flexible and sense of urgency, ability to thrive in a fast-paced environmentProficient in computer software packages such as Microsoft Office, other related technologiesQuality Auditor Certifications (preferred)Additional information
