Quality Crew Lead
Job Description

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Lansing Grand River Assembly on a full-time basis.

The Role:

As a Quality Crew Leader, you will have responsibility for a medium/large group of employees in the implementation and execution of the established business process for an area in the Production Operations and foster an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation. Work is of a technical nature using independent judgment within the limits of GMS, focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). Possess the ability to deal with complex problems. Supervise a medium to large group of salaried employees involved in multiple departments/processes. May manage across multiple shifts.

You will maintain awareness of quality standards, and communicate department quality goals, and leverages resources to solve quality issues. You will build and maintain good working relationships with employees, union and management, and understand to consistently administer the National and Local Agreements between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union. Implements and follows systems that prevent reoccurrence of known issues.

LGR runs production Monday - Thursday from 6am to 4:30pm. This position will require OT on an as needed basis.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material, and equipmentParticipate in the selection of new employees and trains, develops and evaluates salaried and hourly employees, and the development of highly effective teams.Leads Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes across multiple departments and serves as lead resource supporting launch and pilot activities in assigned areas.Meets or exceeds production cost schedule and maintains quality requirements.Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping. Motivates, trains and develops employees to effectively perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods.Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training)Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing/synchronous principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve productivity improvements.Coach, teach, counsel and mentor Group Leaders in these responsibilities.Present the Assembly Plant and Engineering Staff with clear problem definition, technical mentorship on complex problems, and regular updates on progress.Support Launch of new products in the plant when applicable.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

5+ years of experience working in quality or a manufacturing environment

Group Leader experience

Experience in a unionized environment

Proficiency and knowledge of vehicle/propulsion Manufacturing and the elements of the GM Quality System / GMS BIQ

Proficiency and knowledge of the Quality Launch Plan and the requirements in the Global Quality Manual

Managerial Courage to provide direct, honest, constructive feedback to Plant Staffs / Executive Leadership in a considerate and professional manner

Ability to work four ten-hour shifts (Monday-Thursday)

Ability to work overtime as needed

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

3+ years of manufacturing experience

3+ year of quality experience 

Bachelor's degree
