This role leads the Crystal Farms Food Safety and Quality team. This role has responsibilities for providing leadership for our end-to-end supply chain, including internally produced products, co-manufactured products, and our internal and 3PL warehousing and transportation networks. The role supports that through developing and establishing strategy, teams, systems, and specifications that ensure established product and packaging quality are achieved. Prioritizes and manages team activities and leads cross-functional initiatives resulting in meeting Crystal Farms safety, quality, cost, and innovation objectives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides leadership in the development, training, and execution of all necessary Food Safety and Quality and Sanitation operations for Crystal Farms Dairy Company plant and distribution centers.
2. Provides leadership, coaching, and direction to Crystal Farms quality assurance and sanitation teams.
3. Development and management of the Sanitation Supervisor, Lead, and Sanitation Technicians and department’s operating budget.
4. Coordinates shift activities through planning and communication with site management, sanitation supervisors/leads, and sanitation technicians to ensure all sanitation objectives are accomplished in a timely, cost-effective, and safe manner.
5. Assess, develop, and improve plant quality assurance programs and systems to ensure a safe and wholesome product supply.
6. Assess, develop, and improve plant Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP).
7. Responsible for Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) improvement and completion.
8. Identify and drive continuous improvement of product quality and quality systems and processes, including shelf-life validation and recommendations, testing procedures and protocols, and recommendations for changes to current specifications or quality parameters. Participates in and ensures compliance to quality policies.
9. Responsible for reviewing the effectiveness of the Sanitation Program by completing gap analysis on an annual basis to provide continuous improvement for the sanitation program.
10. Leads and participates in regulatory, customer, external and internal audits by engaging quality and cross functional department personnel to gather records, develop new processes, and ensure follow up remediation and compliance.
11. Accountable for the identification of issues, investigation of root cause, and execution of corrective action to customer and consumer complaints. Provides and documents well-constructed and formal written responses for all complaints with specific actions, timelines, and ownership to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
12. Manages incoming goods, in-process, and finished goods product testing programs to ensure all food safety and quality specifications are met.
13. Reviews, analyzes, provides recommendations, and communicates results of all quality and sanitation Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to plant management, plant teams, and Crystal Farms corporate leadership. Ensures timely communication of deviations.
14. Provides leadership in the development, training, and maintenance of SQF, HACCP, FSMA and GMP programs.
15. Provides leadership to help ensure a safe work environment throughout the plant.
16. Fosters and facilitates consistent communication and teamwork between all local personnel, departments, and shifts, as well as other company location and external co-manufacturer resources to drive world class food safety programs for the company.
17. Ensures company policies and procedures are fairly administered between departments and shifts.
18. Responsible for departmental budgeting, cost control, and staffing with emphasis on driving efficiency and productivity while maintaining high quality standards.
19. Actively participates in and provides appropriate leadership to local safety teams.
20. Manages execution of all assigned projects and alignment with project scope, brief, stage gate process, business strategies, standards, and practices.
21. Manages product compliance (food safety, ingredient usage, NLEA information, product claims) against internal and external standards (FDA, USDA, and third-party certification) through collaboration with regulatory, marketing, and other parties.
22. Manages projects and delegates task to direct reports and/or other resources. Takes active role in high-risk projects to help mitigate risks, remove barriers, help define contingency plans and provide support/mentorship to scientists.
23. Assist with commercialization efforts and/or capability studies for projects as needed.
24. Identifies area for continuous improvement and puts action plan in place.
25. Provides technical expertise to solve problems with ingredients, formulations, processing, sensory and consumer testing. Maintain up to date knowledge of ingredients and technology.
26. Lead cross-functional initiatives and build cross-functional and external (co-man) partnerships.
**Qualifications**
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:**
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Dairy Science or related field and a total of 8 years of experience in Quality Assurance and proven leadership effectively managing sanitation team.

6. Ability to manage multiple short-term and long-term projects and initiatives.
7. Strong learning aptitude to stay current with changes in food safety regulations and industry trends.
8. Process mindset to drive focus, structure, and discipline on food safety and quality operations.
9. Able to work overtime or weekends when required.
10. Experience or knowledge of all applicable food industry related quality systems.
