Purpose of the role
Colas Ltd. have a great opportunity for a Qaulity and Compliance Officer to join the team based at our Guilden Sutton depot in Chester,CH2 4EX. In this varied and dynamic role, you’ll support the Business Performance and Improvement Manager in maintaining and enhancing our quality, compliance and integrated management systems. You'll work with a wide range of teams and digital platforms to help drive continuous improvement and ensure our operations meet legal, environmental and ISO standards. This role offers hybrid working after the completion of a 6 month probation period. You will be expected to travel to our Winsford depot once a week.
Main Responsibilities
As a Quality and Compliance Officer, you will support internal and external audits, including those led by BSI and National Highways Sector Schemes (NHSS), working closely with the Business Performance and Improvement Manager. You’ll contribute to the development of the new Integrated Management System (IMS), helping drive digital transformation by ensuring documentation and end-to-end processes are accurate and compliant. You will also assist in the triage and close-out of corrective actions arising from audits, near misses, or continuous improvement initiatives via Eco-Online. Additional responsibilities include supporting the management of the Legal Compliance Register, gathering performance and quality data for monthly reporting, and contributing to process improvement initiatives, including the promotion of LEAN methodologies across the business.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have proven working experience or an ability to demonstrate transferrable skills from a previous industry to this role. You will be detail-oriented and proactive individual with a passion for quality, compliance, and continuous improvement. We are open to candidates from a variety of work backgrounds — whether you're returning to work after a break or looking to move into a new area. What matters most is that you're confident using a range of digital tools and systems, including Microsoft Office applications, Power BI, and other industry-specific platforms., as is familiarity with LEAN methodologies and process management.
You should be a clear communicator, both in writing and in person, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels and be a great team player. Strong computer skills are essential, particularly in SharePoint, as it’s a key part of the role. An understanding of ISO standards such as 9001, 14001, 45001, and 44001 is highly desirable would be a bonus, but not essential. We're looking for someone who enjoys improving processes, has an eye for detail, and can bring new ideas to the table. A UK driving licence is essential.
