Job Title: Quality Laboratory Analyst  

Department: Quality 

Site: Foods Supply Unit – Cavite 

Reports to: Factory Quality Lead (Cooking Aids)

MAIN JOB PURPOSE  

The Quality Laboratory Analyst role runs the site testing facility for both raw and packaging materials and ensures that all applicable test methods are in place, that measurement standards are accurate and reproducible, and that all laboratory and satellite testing equipment is appropriate, calibrated and operated to the required standard. Performs more complex analyses, manages all LIMS data, and trains manufacturing staff as needed. Liaises where necessary with central Unilever expertise and third-party contract laboratories. 

 

This role works with limited supervision. The Quality Laboratory Analyst identifies the most appropriate calibration and maintenance schedule for all laboratory equipment to minimize measurement drift and produce repeatable results. Analyst will recommend the most appropriate test methods as issues arise, including decision to pursue non-standard testing if necessary. 

SKILLS AND RESPONSIBLITIES 

 

Key Accountabilities 

 

Responsible for the overall Raw and Packaging Sampling Plan which includes scope, frequency, methods of sampling and testing 

Conducts regular review of the sampling plan, revise and update, if necessary, in reference to historical test results and material and product risk categories 

Prepares on time material performance/non conformance report to summarize findings and test results and coordinates to concerned department for necessary actions

Responsible for providing the disposition of materials according to defined specification within the agreed lead time

Monitors supplier performance and recommends needed actions based on the results

Coordinates with Supply Management and National QA team to raise material quality issues and drive for needed corrective actions from supplier 

Maintains the Analytical laboratory to ensure continuous support to the operations and compliance to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and reviews its capacity based on current needs

Revise/update related quality system documents and process when necessary

Participates in appropriate technical seminars, conferences, workshops to develop competency and familiarity with the latest development on the field of Chemistry. Responsible for the regular verification of Good Warehousing requirements such as cleanliness of material warehouses

Compliance to storage requirements and material handling practices to ensure compliance to set standards

Conducts inspection and aseptic sampling of all incoming 

Quality and Consumer Safety 

Working knowledge on the UL Quality Management System, HPC 420, T5Z, and FFZ procedures and protocols 

Supports the implementation of UL Quality Management System, HPC 420, Top Five for Zero and the Fit For Zero protocols to ensure consumer safety and overall quality of the final product manufactured in the site especially for new product innovation and new processes 

Conducts verification of site compliance to the UL QMS, HACCP and Category GMP through internal audits and quality deep dive activities together with the Quality Engineer 

Conducts investigation with the Supplier on EA, EB and EC incidents and develop sustainable improvements on Supplier Quality 

Develops site specific standard operating procedures and work instructions that supports the consistent implementation of the UL QMS, Consumer Safety Program and other applicable standards 

Identifies digital transformation projects for Quality and executes the same to facilitate continual improvement of the Innovation and Improvement process

Understands the legal responsibility relevant to safety, health and environment as well as its implications to the scope of the job 

Conducts Safety Behavioral Observations focusing on Safe / Unsafe Acts and Conditions noted within the site as part of daily routine. 

Full knowledge of the workplace and hazards within it. Utilize all appropriate safety and environmental procedures for people, processes, materials, products and equipment relevant to the task.

Shares knowledge and technical expertise to the team 

Problem Solving 

Fully operational knowledge on identifying, prioritizing and providing full quality and consumer safety view on Technical Risk Assessments for New Product Innovation and New Processes. 

Uses appropriate tools and prioritization techniques in providing solution to noted quality and consumer safety issues on NPIs and New Processes 

Analyses complex data and assigns into quality loss trees while applying correct methods to ensure proper calibration and interpretation of results as input to problem resolution noted during Main Plant Trials and Risk Assessments 

 

Decision Making 

A Working Knowledge of how to identify, prioritize and address problems using appropriate tools and techniques identified during the Technical Risk Assessments and execute the same to address the noted concern.  

Demonstrates initiative to handle quality and consumer safety related decisions in coordination with the site Category QA 

Makes technical decisions to support the quality team working at in-bound material assessment through and provides of documented SOPs and training. 

Works under limited supervision and has some freedom to arrange order of duties other than routine quality tasks. 

 

Project Management 

Attains the required output and targets of the defined quality improvement projects given the agreed timelines. 

Uses appropriate project management tools and techniques to ensure efficient use of technical, financial and human resource 

 

Business Acumen 

Understands the need to meet the changing demands of consumers and the impact of quality and consumer safety on consumer buying decisions 

Supports the growth strategies of the business through the facilitation of new product innovation and process changes together with SUIT and R&D. 

Develops improvement projects based on the DVOC feedback and conducts monthly analysis on DVOC, engages the Quality Engineer and Category QA on driving improvements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED 

Graduate of Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry  

Licensed Chemist or Chemical Technician   

Good people handling, coaching, and leadership skills 

Problem solving and data analysis skills 

Presentation skills (well versed in MS Office and Power Apps) 

Reading, comprehension, and communication skills 

Working knowledge in WCM, TPM, HACCP and HPC 420 

Manufacturing experience in FMCG
