Expectations:
An instrument Tech should have at least 2 years’ experience or equivalent education working with analytical instrumentation. It is preferred that they have reached at least laboratory technician III level but is not necessary prior to moving into this position.Provide leadership in the Laboratory Safety Program and Chemical Compliance Program.  Perform at least one Laboratory Safety audit per month. Supports the safety engagement program for the plant and department.Demonstrates sufficient computer skills to utilize lab instrument operation programs and software and other lab related software programsExperience with good documentation practices and ensures all required documentation is filled out accurately and timelyFamiliar with a variety of instrumentation including the following but not limited to: HPLC, GC, IC, NIR, LECO, ICP.Updates and maintains the lab map with Instrument status as they change.Performs all maintenance activities required for all lab instrumentation including instruments located in other departments of the lab, maintains inventory of routine parts to perform maintenance.Understands that hazard analysis and safety must be considered for all work on instrumentation; this job performs many non-routine tasks in order to get them operating appropriately.Able to move and change gas cylinders, coordinate pickup and delivery of lab gasses on an as needed basis.Able to effectively communicate with lab leadership when instrumentation will be down for extended period of time.Able to professionally reach out to vendors and service departments to trouble shoot instrumentation.Demonstrates sufficient math skills to perform calculations associated with lab testing and standard preparation.Demonstrated ability to accept instruction, coaching, and constructive criticism as tools for continuous improvement.Demonstrated ability to prioritize daily/weekly/long term duties, projects, and goals and able to re-prioritize these items as needs changeUnderstands that accidents are preventable and that safety is everyone’s responsibility.Willingness and ability to work within the time demands of a 24/7/365 workday operation.Able to gain working knowledge of all aisles of the lab to help cover shift technician responsibilities as requested by lab managementRequirements (General):This position: under limited supervision, conducts inspection, maintenance and calibration on laboratory equipment and instrumentation.Works directly with operations and management to achieve a high level of accuracy of lab data.Works primarily a day shift or day rotating position but will provide overtime coverage as needed, including shift coverage.It requires previous laboratory experience and previous plant experience is preferred. Employee should be team-oriented, organized, and be able to work independently with self-motivation and direction.This position often has to navigate to other departments in the plant and must be mindful of hazards present.Instrument techs are expected to show continuous improvement in all areas of KPI tracking. Attendance and performance issues will be addressed to ensure that the technician has the opportunity to correct any of these concerns. Issues that cannot be corrected with the coaching process may lead to disciplinary action.Any disciplinary status will be considered for this position.Requirements (Technical):Each employee should possess a solid understanding of chemistry fundamentals, certification on all available analytical instruments, and a working knowledge of cGMP, FDA, and other regulatory requirements.Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems and Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) is required. Job Requirements: Exhibit regular and prompt attendance and maintain attendance record in accordance with company policyMust be 18 years or older Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship Ability to understand and effectively communicate in English (verbal/written)  High School diploma or equivalent (preferred)
