How will you make an impact in this role?
American Express, one of the world’s most iconic brands, is looking for an experienced public relations professional to join its award-winning Corporate Affairs and Communications team.
Based in Toronto, this position reports to the Director of Public Affairs and Communications for Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering public relations strategies and campaigns to protect and enhance the reputation of American Express in Canada. In particular, the candidate will work across American Express’ national Brand campaigns and Consumer Card businesses.
This is a highly visible role for an exceptional storyteller and relationship-builder who thrives at the intersection of brand, culture, partnerships, and earned media. You’ll help bring to life how American Express backs its customers, colleagues, merchants, and communities—while championing world-class partnerships such as Formula 1® and premium dining, travel, and entertainment experiences that define Amex Membership.
Key Responsibilities:
Brand, Consumer & Partnership PR
Design and execute integrated PR and influencer strategies that amplify the American Express brand, Consumer Card and Travel businesses in Canada. Leverage marquee partnerships and dining, travel, and entertainment benefits to reinforce the value of Membership and American Express as a premium lifestyle brand.Identify and activate culturally relevant moments, trends, and storytelling opportunities that strengthen brand relevance and differentiation.Press Office & Media Leadership
Play a lead role in the always-on press office, overseeing media monitoring, press office strategy, and proactive story development.Manage and respond to media inquiries, ensuring timely, thoughtful, and on-brand engagement.Prepare and brief spokespeople for media interviews, events, and thought leadership opportunities.Maintain proven, trusted relationships with top-tier rewards, lifestyle, travel, dining, business, and consumer media across Canada.Thought Leadership & Executive Communications
Provide strategic communications counsel to senior leaders on announcements, launches, and reputational priorities.Draft speeches, talking points, and presentations that position American Express as a thought leader on key industry, consumer, and lifestyle trends.Help ensure American Express has a confident, credible, and consistent public voice in the Canadian market.Integrated Communications & Collaboration
Partner closely with social media, CSR, marketing, and internal communications teams to deliver fully integrated, multi-channel communications programs.Collaborate across the enterprise to ensure alignment between earned media, owned channels, and business priorities.Agency & Issues Management
Oversee PR agency partners, providing strategic direction and ensuring excellence in execution.Serve as a key member of the Crisis Response Team, offering sound communications counsel and support during issues or crisis situations.Minimum Qualifications:
8+ years of professional experience in public relations (consumer and/or brand PR agency experience strongly preferred) or journalism.Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a sharp editorial eye.Demonstrated ability to develop and execute high-impact PR and influencer strategies that generate meaningful, quality media coverage.Strong existing relationships with Canadian lifestyle, rewards, business, and consumer media.Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.Highly collaborative, self-motivated team player with strong judgment and attention to detail.Intellectual curiosity and a genuine desire to learn and grow.Hiring Range: $100,000 to $150,000 annually + bonus + benefits
