Reporting to the Associate Director of Policy Research, and Engagement, this position will: manage the promotion of the Commission’s projects, programs, and events; maintain and improve its various public platforms; engage with community stakeholders and media; organize and support events; and generally represent the Commission in the public sphere. The Metro Human Relations Commission (MHRC) works to protect and promote the personal dignity, peace, safety, security, health, and general welfare of all people in Nashville and Davidson County. The Commission provides education, training, advocacy, and compliance services related to civil rights, human rights, and human relations. Typical Duties + Strengthen current partnerships and develop new alliances based on strategic goals. + Oversee development and maintenance as well as community partnerships and coalition building activities to strengthen MHRC programming and policy work. + Represent the Commission at stakeholder and community meetings. + Promote and market the Commission as well as its programs and events. + Organize, co-organize, or support events in which the Commission plays a role. + Develop a cohort of sponsors and partners to support various projects and events. + Build and manage a public relations and engagement plan. + Create and implement a public facing communications plan, with audiences including the general public, traditional and alternative media, and Metro stakeholders to ensure the MHRC, its programs, and goals are publicized and well positioned. + Manage and bolster the Commission’s social media channels. + Manage the Commission’s website as well other websites it oversees. + Interact with media and journalists. + Write and distribute press releases, email blasts, and public facing advisories/notices. + Support the development, implementation, and administration of recurring and special reports, policy initiatives, and special projects. + Engage with staff to develop a grants program. + Assist in developing and implementing strategies with key decision-makers in the legislative and executive branches. + In collaboration with other staff, identify and communicate regularly with Metro departments, elected officials, and community partners regarding the Commission’s work and goals. + Analyze and maintain information and data to report on the Commission’s programs. + Stay current and engaged with significant, relevant trends and development in social justice-oriented community work in Davidson County and Middle Tennessee. + Monitor and analyze relevant activity in Metro Council, in the executive branch, and in partner organizations county-wide. + Be an active team member with shared responsibility for implementing organizational policy and ensure the overall success and effectiveness of the MHRC in advancing its mission. + Participate in long and short-term program development and planning. + Assist with MHRC presentations, events, seminars, and workshops. + Attend and/or chair meetings and workshops as needed. + Supply technical expertise to Metro departments and partner organizations as needed. + Provide administrative support related to the community engagement. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years' experience disseminating information and/or planning public relations activities related to public relations, media, development, and/or brand management.
