The Prototype Engineer plays a key role in supporting both compressor development and sustaining activities, focusing on assembly, teardown analysis, and the evolution of assembly technologies and equipment. This hands-on role requires a strong quality, schedule, and budget mindset while managing projects aligned with the company’s product roadmap. The engineer also provides critical support to manufacturing operations, including troubleshooting, problem-solving, process development, and training.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Build high-quality prototype compressors and components to support research, product development, and sustaining efforts, ensuring timely delivery to the R&D test lab.
Conduct teardown analysis of tested compressors, generate detailed reports, and maintain documentation within the lab test database.
Design and fabricate custom tooling to aid in the assembly of prototype compressors and modules.
Develop and implement low-volume manufacturing solutions to support early-stage product development and ensure manufacturability.
Collaborate with the product development and electronics teams to apply DFM/DFA principles and to design and build prototype harnesses and electrical enclosures.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in alignment with quality policies, safety procedures, and operational standards.
Continuously identify and act on opportunities for process improvement, supporting a culture of innovation and efficiency.
Background & SkillsBachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience, with at least 1 year of relevant industry experience.
Proven knowledge in product development and manufacturing, with a strong emphasis on DFM/DFA principles; compressor industry experience preferred.
Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in assembly and disassembly of machinery and components.
Proficiency in CAD software for both 3D modeling and 2D technical drawings, along with solid skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal) and the ability to collaborate effectively with global, cross-functional teams.
Strong analytical, reasoning, and project management skills—able to define problems, evaluate data, prioritize tasks, and deliver results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
