Your typical day – Our MDA analysts and engineers work in modern, well-appointed government facilities at Redstone Arsenal. Redstone is located in Huntsville, Alabama, otherwise known as “Rocket City.” Huntsville is the hub of missile and space research and development. You will collaborate with other missile defense experts – military, government civilians, and contractors from Astrion and other companies. Our team of experts helps the Government manage planning, development and delivery of state-of-the art sensors, weapons, communications, and command/control systems.

What are your specific duties? – The Propulsion Engineer will support the Missile Defense Agency Director for Test and Targets (DT) with the development of missile defense target vehicles.

 

Responsibilities Include:

Perform oversight of prime contractor solid rocket motor design, test, and integrationMonitor and assess the performance of MDA target providers to ensure their activities and products meet program requirements. Develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape Integrated Product team (IPT) activities to accomplish objectives within the program schedule and cost profileReview and assess prime contractor propulsion design and data products relative to program design requirements and performance objectivesEffectively communicate results and issues with MDA, prime contractor, and FFRDC engineersInteract daily with customers, team members, and end usersSupport prime contractor propulsion testingIdentify and support to the resolution of complex engineering issues that can involve multiple engineering functional areas within MDA as well as at the contractor and FFRDCs Support the customer and prime contractors in identifying and evaluating innovative technical solutions leveraging best practices, prior lessons learned, and best engineering practices Represent the interests of the customer in Failure Review Boards, Working Groups, Integrated Product Teams, Engineering/Material Review Boards, and Technical Interchange MeetingsProvide ongoing review and assessment of contractor program execution and technical requirements/data (specifications, analyses, test plans/reports) throughout program performance Review and provide comments on Prime Contractor Objective Evidence in support of major milestone reviews (e.g. SRRs, PDRs, CDRs) Develop briefings and decision packages for Targets and MDA Leadership Travel to contractor and test locations (approximately 20% travel)

Required Skills and Experience:

Education: BA/BS in a STEM related fieldExperience: 7+ years of relevant experienceActive DoD Secret security clearance, which requires US CitizenshipExperience with propulsion, specifically solid rocket motor, design and testCapable of performing as a member of a team and assisting with solving complex problemsProficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
