As a member the Promontory Australia team at IBM you will contribute to the firm's efforts in working with clients on challenging strategic, risk management, and regulatory compliance issues.
Our team of specialists offers the following services across Prudential, Conduct and AML Regulation:
· Risk Management - Providing advisory and assurance services regarding organisational transformation across risk management, governance, culture, accountability and compliance.
· Remediation Services - Assurance to regulators and firms over customer focused remediation programs.
· Regulatory Framework - Advising regulators and industry associations on building regulatory frameworks.
· Regulatory Liaison - Helping our clients navigate relationships with regulators.
· RegTech - Working with IBM teams and leveraging their technology assets in advising clients on AI based solutions and associated risk governance.
We have a diverse client base in Australia, which includes some of Australia’s largest financial institutions and clients drawn from the public sector.
As a Associate Consultant, you will be responsible for managing risk, regulatory and compliance engagements on a day-to-day basis, analysing complex problems, developing recommendations to address client issues and heavily involved in reports and other deliverables. A strong consulting background with experience in non-financial risk management (including operational risk and resilience) and or superannuation is preferable. You will also be expected to draw upon your insights and networks to identify business opportunities for IBM Promontory to pursue.
**Your role and responsibilities**
As a Strategy Consultant specializing in Compliance & Conduct Risk, you will advise and strategize with clients to develop solutions that address their complex regulatory issues while minimizing overall risk and aligning with their business strategy. You will work predominantly with financial institutions to deliver tailored solutions. Your primary responsibilities will include: • Develop Regulatory Solutions: Collaborate with clients to design and implement solutions that meet their unique regulatory needs, ensuring minimal risk exposure and alignment with business objectives. • Strategize with Clients: Work closely with clients to understand their regulatory challenges and develop effective strategies that balance risk mitigation with business goals. • Deliver Tailored Advice: Provide expert guidance to clients on managing compliance and conduct risk, taking into account their specific industry, market, and business requirements. • Analyze Regulatory Issues: Identify and analyze complex regulatory issues facing clients, developing actionable recommendations to address these challenges. • Implement Risk Minimization Strategies: Support clients in implementing strategies that minimize their overall risk exposure while adhering to regulatory requirements.
To be successful in this role a candidate must have the stature to engage effectively with clients and potential clients at all levels. The candidate will also need to inspire and work effectively with team members drawn from a range of technical disciplines. Interact comfortably with executive management across industry and regulatory authorities. Key responsibilities will include:
* Manage projects and act as client point of contact on a day-to-day basis contributing to engagements being delivered to budget and meeting profit and realisation targets.
* Undertake analysis as directed and take responsibility for the preparation of project deliverables, including reports and presentations.
* Interact comfortably with executive management of and regulatory authorities, generally with a Director or Senior Principal present.
* Strong analytical skills, oral skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, simply and logically.
* Strong written communication skills with, the ability to construct well-founded, clear, and concise analyses and recommendations.
* Ability to handle complex information, solve problems, and manage multiple tasks.
* Ability to work closely with, and communicate effectively with, clients and within all levels of the organisation.

**Required technical and professional expertise**
• Regulatory Solution Development: Exposure to designing and implementing regulatory solutions that meet unique client needs, ensuring minimal risk exposure and alignment with business objectives. • Client Regulatory Challenges: Experience working with clients to understand their regulatory challenges and develop effective strategies that balance risk mitigation with business goals. • Compliance and Conduct Risk Management: Exposure to providing expert guidance on managing compliance and conduct risk, taking into account specific industry, market, and business requirements. • Regulatory Issue Analysis: Experience analyzing complex regulatory issues and developing actionable recommendations to address these challenges. • Risk Minimization Strategy Implementation: Exposure to implementing strategies that minimize overall risk exposure while adhering to regulatory requirements.
· An undergraduate degree in either Accounting, Commerce, Finance, or Law - with postgraduate qualifications highly regarded.
· At least 6 experience in Financial services, Consulting, Regulator, Compliance, Risk management, Governance or legal.
· Track record working in a fast-paced and unstructured environment with aptitude for identifying and developing innovative solutions to client challenges.
· Analytics and data: Proven track record of successfully delivering highly analytical and data intensive work. Strong understanding of data governance and experience in working with large and unstructured datasets to draw meaningful and actionable insights and outcomes.
· AI: A strong understanding of AI fundamentals, including AI governance, and model development and application.
· Expert level capabilities in Excel (incl. advanced excel functionality and VBA / Macro development). Expert level capabilities in working with large datasets in SQL.
**Preferred technical and professional experience**
• Financial Institution Knowledge: Exposure to working with financial institutions, understanding their regulatory challenges, and developing effective strategies to address these challenges. • Regulatory Framework Understanding: Experience working with regulatory frameworks, analyzing complex regulatory issues, and developing actionable recommendations to address these challenges. • Risk Management Expertise: Exposure to providing expert guidance on managing compliance and conduct risk, taking into account specific industry, market, and business requirements.
· Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Finance, Law or Business Administration with postgraduate qualifications highly regarded.
· Specialising in data analytics, risk management, assurance, and regulatory compliance.
· Experience developing, testing and validating the end-to-end modelling process and knowledge of a variety of tools including Alteryx, R and Python.
