Position: Project Accountant (High-Growth Construction Firm | Path to Controller/CFO)

Location: Berlin, CT (On-Site)

Pay: Up to $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Project Accountant to join a growing construction firm headquartered in Berlin, CT. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment and is looking for a long-term career path into senior financial leadership, including potential advancement to Controller or CFO.

The Project Accountant will play a critical role in overseeing project-level financial operations, maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end reporting, and partnering closely with Project Managers and senior leadership. This position offers exposure to all facets of accounting and finance within a rapidly expanding organization that works with high-profile clients such as ESPN, Raytheon, and Yale.

Key ResponsibilitiesProject & Financial AccountingPrepare and analyze financial statements and management reports using Sage 300 and ExcelMaintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statementsTrack and maintain cost-to-complete and project profitability reportsEngage in projects from inception through closeoutAssist with month-end and year-end close processesAccounts Payable & ReceivablePrepare customer invoices, including AIA billingRecord and manage AR transactions and cash receiptsProcess AP invoices and oversee check runsSet up and maintain customers, projects, and vendors in the accounting systemAssemble and maintain subcontractor W-9s, insurance certificates, and compliance documentationMaintain vendor communication, resolving discrepancies and outstanding issues via phone and emailTax, Audit & ComplianceFile sales and use taxAssist with internal and external auditsMaintain accurate records in accordance with accounting standards and regulatory requirementsCollaboration & Leadership DevelopmentWork closely with Project Managers to ensure financial accuracy and forecastingSupport onboarding and guidance of junior accounting staffAssist with special projects, process improvements, and system enhancementsGain increasing exposure to budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planningRequired Qualifications5+ years of accounting experience in a construction environmentStrong understanding of:Project accountingGeneral ledgerAccounts payable and receivableExperience with AIA BillingProficiency in Sage 300 and advanced ExcelStrong communication and organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environmentPreferred QualificationsExperience in a small to midsize construction firmDemonstrated interest in long-term career growth and leadershipAbility to contribute to process improvements and provide creative, practical solutionsWork Environment & Growth Opportunity

End of Year Bonuses tied to company performance - could bring salary to 100k+
