Job Title: Project/Program Manager I – Community Safety Operations
Job Description
This role serves as a first responder for live community safety services, providing real-time operational support during active events and safeguarding the integrity of programs such as Search Party for Dogs, Fire Watch, and Community Requests. You will monitor critical incidents, coordinate with partners and local agencies, and supervise AI-assisted workflows to ensure accurate, timely, and safe responses for communities. When not handling live events, you will document workflows, design and refine standard operating procedures, and identify automation opportunities that help scale and improve these services. This position sits at the forefront of using AI to make neighborhoods safer and offers significant room for individual growth, impact, and ownership within a nimble team.
Responsibilities
Monitor and respond in real time to operational issues across Search Party for Dogs, Fire Watch, and Community Requests, ensuring timely and accurate actions during active events.Serve as a first responder for live community safety services, making sound decisions in ambiguous, time-sensitive situations.Support third-party partners such as animal shelters and pet technology platforms in initiating and managing Search Parties, providing clear guidance and coordination throughout each incident.Coordinate with Watch Duty reporters during active fire events to validate information, determine appropriate wildfire polygons, and ensure accurate Fire Watch data and community notifications.Supervise AI-assisted workflows for Community Requests, reviewing outputs, flagging high-risk events, and escalating cases to local agencies or appropriate stakeholders when needed.Maintain detailed incident logs, including timelines, actions taken, outcomes, and learnings for each event.Conduct post-event retrospectives to identify opportunities for process improvements, risk reduction, and enhanced community impact.Develop, document, and continuously refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) for each service, ensuring that workflows are clear, repeatable, and aligned with best practices.Identify manual processes that are suitable for automation and collaborate with engineering and other teams to design and implement automation improvements.Follow established SOPs consistently while also contributing feedback and recommendations to evolve them over time.Participate in an on-call rotation with defined response service-level agreements (SLAs), ensuring reliable coverage for active incidents.Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners and external agencies to ensure smooth operations and effective communication during crises.Contribute to the overall strategy and evolution of community safety services, helping define how AI and operational practices can best support safer neighborhoods.Essential Skills
Minimum 3 years of experience in trust and safety operations, community operations, crisis communications, or a closely related field.Demonstrated safety or wellness experience in areas such as trust and safety operations, community operations, or crisis communications.Strong judgment and decision-making skills in ambiguous, time-sensitive, and high-pressure situations.Comfort and experience working with AI-assisted workflows and escalation processes, including reviewing AI outputs and determining appropriate actions.Proven experience with process documentation, workflow design, or operations automation.Excellent written communication skills for clear, concise, and professional coordination with partners, agencies, and internal stakeholders.Ability to follow and apply standard operating procedures (SOPs) while maintaining attention to detail and operational consistency.Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain detailed incident logs and post-event documentation.Bachelor’s degree in any field or equivalent practical experience.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in emergency management, public safety dispatch, or 911/crisis center operations.Experience working with third-party API integrations or partner support in an operational context.Familiarity with animal welfare organizations or pet technology platforms such as shelters or pet tracking services.Additional experience in operations automation, including identifying manual processes and partnering with technical teams to implement improvements.Comfort working on a nimble, fast-moving team with the ability to take ownership and help define operational scope and best practices.Interest in applying AI and technology to improve community safety and wellness.Work Environment
This is a hybrid role with an expectation to work onsite three days per week in Hawthorne, with the remaining time remote-eligible. Core hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with potential for weekend coverage as needed to support live operations and on-call responsibilities. You will work in a technology-driven environment that leverages AI-assisted workflows, third-party integrations, and real-time monitoring tools to support community safety services. The team operates in a nimble, collaborative setting where you will interact closely with cross-functional partners and external organizations. The environment emphasizes clear communication, adherence to defined SOPs, and continuous improvement of operational processes and automation.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Hawthorne, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $41.00/hr.
