Job Description

The AECOM Water Business Line is seeking a Project Manager Water Resources Engineerr to join the Phoenix, AZ office. This role focuses on hydrology and hydraulic modeling, stormwater and roadway drainage design, and municipal water resources projects. The position supports delivery of mid- to large-scale infrastructure projects while progressively transitioning into a Project Management role through the AECOM’s proprietary PM certification program. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, mentor junior staff, support client relationships, and contribute to business development within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment.

Job Description

Serve as lead engineer or discipline lead for mid- to large-scale water resources and stormwater infrastructure projectsDirect preparation and delivery of construction packages, including design drawings, specifications, cost estimates, alternatives analyses, technical memoranda, and design reportsPlan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering projects with a focus on stormwater management systemsPerform and oversee hydrologic and hydraulic analyses supporting drainage, flood mitigation, and roadway projectsLead conceptual and final design of water management infrastructure such as channels, culverts, detention facilities, levees, floodwalls, spillways, and associated access featuresEnsure designs incorporate erosion control measures, geosynthetics, and surface and subsurface drainage systemsProvide technical oversight, independent reviews, and approval of engineering analyses and design deliverablesManage and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams, including subcontractors, typically consisting of five or more team membersMentor and provide technical direction to junior engineers and designersSupport client coordination, present design solutions, and contribute to development of project proposals and business growth initiatives

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline with 8 years of relevant professional experienceProfessional Engineer (P.E.) license in Arizona or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s in Civil Engineering or related field of studyBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline with 15 years of relevant professional experienceDemonstrated expertise in stormwater evaluation and design, including 1D/2D hydrologic and hydraulic modelingProficiency with industry-standard modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SRH-2D)Experience leading design tasks on complex water resources or design-build projectsStrong understanding of stormwater permitting, floodplain management, and regulatory coordinationExperience developing grading, drainage, and roadway plans in coordination with CAD designers (AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred)Proven ability to manage scope, budget, and schedule for complex engineering tasksExperience preparing technical reports, calculation packages, and construction documentation Demonstrated technical review and quality control oversight experienceStrong analytical skills with sound application of civil engineering design principles Effective communicator with the ability to lead teams and collaborate with other team members
