Job Title: Facilities Operations Manager (Construction & Project Management)
Job Description

The Facilities Operations Manager oversees construction management, architectural design, and code compliance within a dynamic facilities management group. This role leads multiple projects ranging from building renovations and capital infrastructure improvements to equipment installations and site work that support the relocation or expansion of personnel and assets. The position is highly customer-focused, metric-driven, and centered on delivering value through process efficiencies, cost improvements, and operational excellence. The role follows a Monday–Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and may have the possibility to convert to a full-time permanent position.

ResponsibilitiesProvide construction management, architectural design, and code compliance support within the facilities management group.Coordinate the work of contractors and interface with internal customers to accommodate program and operational requirements.Plan and deliver projects such as building renovations, capital infrastructure improvements, equipment installations, and associated site work to support relocation or expansion of personnel and assets.Manage all phases of project management, including requirements evaluation, cost estimating, scheduling, budget management, design oversight, construction management, and project close-out.Apply value engineering principles to drive process efficiencies, cost reductions, and improved project outcomes.Utilize business operating systems to support continuous improvement and operational excellence across all aspects of the department.Manage several projects simultaneously, taking sole responsibility for projects of varying size and complexity while also supporting additional projects as an engineering or construction management resource.Work effectively in a diverse and changing environment while supporting multiple internal and external customers at the same time.Collaborate closely with Facilities Maintenance and Operations teams to ensure seamless integration of new construction and modifications with ongoing operations.Support the development of capital and expense budgets for facilities projects and initiatives.Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, codes, and standards related to building, safety, accessibility, and environmental requirements.Review and interpret engineering blueprints, process specifications, and building layouts to guide project planning and execution.Lead or support projects delivered under both Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build methodologies.Partner effectively with contractors, vendors, and cross-functional team members to ensure projects meet scope, schedule, and quality expectations.Prepare and maintain project documentation, schedules, and progress reports using Microsoft Office, MS Project, and estimating tools.Travel up to approximately 30% of the time as needed to support projects at various locations.Essential SkillsStrong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both verbal and written.Demonstrated experience in project management within facilities, construction, or related environments.Experience facilitating the design and project execution of architectural, electrical, and HVAC systems.Proven ability to manage and coordinate contractors, vendors, and internal team members effectively.Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, including those mandated by OSHA, ADA, NFPA, NEC, EPA, and local building codes.Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, and communication.Experience using AutoCAD for design review and coordination.Experience with MS Project or similar tools for project scheduling and tracking.Experience with estimating software for developing project cost estimates.Ability to read, interpret, and work with engineering blueprints, process specifications, and building layouts.Experience managing both Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build projects.Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and prioritize work in a dynamic environment.Eligibility and ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance, if required for specific projects.Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field with 6 years of prior related experience, or a graduate degree with 4 years of prior related experience.Additional Skills & QualificationsBackground in facilities maintenance, preventive maintenance, or facilities operations.Experience working within a facilities management organization supporting both capital projects and ongoing operations.Exposure to maintenance technician environments and coordination with maintenance teams.Demonstrated ability to contribute to capital and expense budget development and tracking.Experience working in metric-driven environments focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence.Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving setting with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.Work Environment

The role is based in a facilities management setting that supports building renovations, infrastructure upgrades, and equipment installations across a variety of sites. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional travel up to approximately 30% of the time to visit project locations, oversee construction activities, and coordinate with local teams and contractors. The position involves frequent collaboration with Facilities Maintenance and Operations teams, as well as regular interaction with contractors, vendors, and internal customers. You will use tools such as Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MS Project, and estimating software on a regular basis to plan, track, and report on projects. The environment emphasizes continuous improvement, operational excellence, and a strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance. Dress expectations typically align with a professional office setting, with appropriate attire and personal protective equipment required when visiting construction sites or active facilities.

This is a Contract position based out of Rochester, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $52.00/hr.
