As a Site HR Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in supporting our people where it matters most, on the project. Now we’re looking for a **Site Human Resources Specialist** to bring HR expertise directly to the jobsite. This isn’t HR behind a desk; it’s HR in the field, where you’ll be the first point of contact for employees, supervisors, and project leaders. You’ll handle the day-to-day HR needs of the project while partnering with our centralized HR team (1HR) and HR Business Partners for specialized support.
**District Overview**
Kiewit Energy Canada is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. We are a major industrial contractor that work on projects that involve construction of oil & gas facilities such as oilsands processing, including steam–assisted gravity drainage facilities, upgrading & refining, midstream facilities, power & co-generation, terminal projects (ex. LNG, LPG, etc.), and major mine developments. We also have a Modular Yard facility in Edmonton, Alberta. Our engineering branch is a leading-edge division that offers innovative engineering services for our current projects and new pursuits in Canada. Our design services group are based in Calgary and Houston offering expertise in process, piping, mechanical, electrical and civil/structural disciplines.
**Location**
The field location for this role is in Squamish, British Columbia. It is a 2 week on 1 week off rotation with camp accomodations. After this assignment, the next project could be anywhere in Canada. The ability to travel and relocate as-needed is key for this role. **Responsibilities**
+ Be the face of HR onsite
+ Serve as the go-to HR contact for employees and supervisors on the project.
+ Provide guidance on onboarding, payroll, benefits, and policies — ensuring clear, consistent communication.
+ Partner with Employee Relations or Labor Relations to address site-specific concerns.
+ Support leadership during critical situations (e.g., investigations, injuries, emergencies)
+ Drive HR program execution in the field
+ Lead onboarding to create a positive, consistent start for new hires.
+ Support full-cycle HR processes: hiring, staffing schedules, transfers, promotions, performance reviews, and offboarding.
+ Monitor engagement, retention, and workforce productivity — and escalate trends that need attention.
+ Deliver training and promote development opportunities for project employees.
+ Connect the field with the bigger picture
+ Act as the liaison with HR Shared Services and Centers of Excellence to ensure smooth delivery of services.
+ Educate project leaders on HR programs and cycles — wage reviews, bonuses, talent planning, succession, and recognition programs.
+ Provide site-level feedback to HR leadership to improve programs and services.
+ Join 1HR calls, field HR training sessions, and other HR team touchpoints to stay connected and aligned
+ Ensure compliance and protect our people
+ Uphold compliance with HR policies, labor relations processes, and site-specific requirements.
+ Utilize HR data, dashboards, and reports to guide decisions and improve outcomes.
+ Maintain accurate employee records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
Promote wellness and safety by connecting employees to EAP, benefits resources, and company well-being initiatives.
**Qualifications**
+ 3–6 years of hands-on HR experience, ideally in field-based or high-volume environments.
+ Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field preferred.
+ Sharp communicator and influencer - quick to build trust and rapport.
+ Analytical thinker - capable of turning data into action.
+ Resilient and resourceful - ready for fast-paced, evolving, on-site business needs.
+ Familiar with HRIS tools, Microsoft Office suite, and handling confidential information.
+ Flexibility for varying schedules - nights, weekends, multiple locations as needed.
