THE CONSTRUCTION COORDINATOR CO-OP OPPOURTUNITY
Canadian Turner Construction Company's Toronto office is seeking students for an 8–12-month Project or Field Coordinator Co-Op term beginning in September 2025. The Co-Op position requires availability to work on-site or in the head office from Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. The role will involve assisting in obtaining, evaluating, and coordinating project engineering information needed to construct projects. Co-Op student will report directly to the Project Manager or Project Superintendent. The goal of the Co-Op term is to provide the student with hands-on experience in construction operations, with supervised practice either on-site or in the office.
As a Construction Coordinator Co-Op, you will:
Support project team with meeting coordination, material tracking, file management, document control, and progress reporting. Provide progress reports to supervisor and be receptive to learning about construction management. Relate and apply knowledge acquired in the academic setting to company/project setting. Maintain professional relationships with employees, customers, clients, and subcontractors. Participate in training, meetings, and orientation. Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned. Based on the assignment, the following activities may be performed: Assist with project start-up activities and provide support to Project Engineer, Project Superintendent, and/or Project Manager. Assist with collection and review of information and approvals for processing shop drawings, submittals, and Requests for Information (RFIs). Assist with preparation and distribution of information for contract requirements to appropriate parties. Assist with preparation of estimates for changes in work from subcontractors. Attend project site visits to observe and document construction field activities. Assist with preparation of and conduct correspondence and communication as directed to Architects, Engineers, vendors, and subcontractors in connection with performing their assigned trades. Assist with communication to Trades and subcontractors to understand and track job schedules. Assist with monitoring contractor compliance with Turner’s safety program, as directed. Assist with preparation of quantity take-offs and studies for project items using either traditional or computer-aided programs, learning and discussing details necessary to complete project. Request and distribute subcontractor proposals relative to their scope of work to assemble proposals for delivery system. Assist with project close out preparations.Is this the right role for you:
Working toward a four-year degree in Engineering or Architecture or equivalent is preferred.Basic knowledge of building construction.Capable of identifying problems and recommending corrective actions.Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programs.Basic understanding of scheduling programs, preferred.Basic ability to interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule.Familiar with lean methodology.Strong ability to demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills and teamwork with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.Desire to learn & develop.Our team is dedicated to mentoring students as they begin their construction careers. Physical Demands & Work Environment:
The job requires climbing stairs, using hoists and ladders, and navigating construction areas. Employees will frequently sit, climb, stoop, kneel, use tools, and work with computers. Vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The role involves mobility, occasional travel, and work at various sites. Employees must lift up to 10 pounds regularly and 25 pounds occasionally. Work environments include construction sites with exposure to hazards like mechanical parts, heights, fumes, and noise. Employees must follow safety policies, with accommodations available for disabilities.
