Project Exploration Geologist – Africa & Middle East Exploration 

 

Position Description

The Barrick Africa & Middle East Exploration Team is proud to be home to leading technical experts. It combines the resources of a global, multibillion-dollar company with local, discovery-driven teams operating in many of the most prospective, world-class Au and Cu exploration districts. 

We are seeking to recruit a Project Exploration Geologist to join our team within our operations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and successful joint venture partnership with Ma’aden.

We are seeking an engaged, field and discovery focused Project Exploration Geologist to facilitate the discovery of world class orebodies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The successful applicant will have the exciting opportunity to explore in world class gold districts and shape an expanding portfolio within the region. Reporting to the Senior Geologist the Project Exploration Geologist will assist in desktop and field-based target evaluations, to rank, design and implement fit for purpose exploration programs, resulting in discovery of economically viable gold and copper deposits that will positively impact Barrick’s growth. You will be supported by talented, multi-discipline colleagues within the Africa & Middle East region, exploration team, and global leadership.

Responsibilities:

Provide a strong contribution to Barrick’s safety culture and programs while encouraging and ensuring others do the same.

Execution of exploration field activities, including drilling, trenching, mapping, geophysics and geochemistry.

Maintain and ensure the updating of maps, sections, and all geological information related to the exploration project including geochemistry, geophysics, structural, and others

Proactively participate and contribute to the definition of drilling programs and be responsible for geological control and logging of drill holes in digital formats, Quick-Log for daily progress and results reports and detailed logging 

Execute and be responsible for geological mapping at district and local scales, interpreting the most important information to understand and describe the lithological, alteration-mineralization, and structural controls of the hydrothermal system of the exploration project

 

Perform geological and structural interpretations in cross-sections, longitudinal sections, and plans in paper and digital format, which must be periodically updated

Contribute too weekly, monthly, quality reporting to senior management, in the form of presentations and reports. 

Promote a culture of continuous improvement through the application of good practices required by the company in exploration work

Mentorship and development of exploration skills within the dominantly local geological team.

Monitor QA/QC procedures and ensure the integrity of all project datasets.

Be prepared to travel extensively to field offices and project areas, on a FIFO roster.

 

Qualification Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Geology / Geoscience from a recognized institution. 

Experience and Skills Requirements:

 

At least 3 to 5 years of experience in metallic mineral explorations, mainly gold and copper

Experience in VMS and/or orogenic, structurally controlled gold deposits is beneficial, with exposure to Arabian-Nubian Shield geology viewed favourably.

Firm understanding and recognition of mineralization models and geological processes.

Geological / geophysical / geochemical interpretive and integration skills.

Self-motivated and discovery driven

Proficiency in GIS and 3D geological modelling software. Experience with ArcGIS, Leapfrog Geo, Micromine, ioGAS is considered an asset.

Good communication and administration skills.

Europe or Africa / Middle East based candidates are preferred.
