This role contributes to organizational success by leading the early phases of capital and technology projects through Front-End Loading (FEL) methodologies. The Project Engineering Program Manager ensures that project scope, feasibility, risk, contracts and cost are thoroughly defined and aligned with business objectives before execution. This position models and acts in accordance with the company’s guiding principles.

 

 

As a project engineering program manager, you will…

 

Customer Focus:

 

·         Understand internal customer needs and deliver value through well-defined project outcomes.

·         Lead FEL stages (FEL-1 to FEL-3) for capital and technology projects, ensuring robust project plan, scope development, risk assessment, and stakeholder alignment.

·         Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality assurance, R&D, and finance to define project requirements and success criteria.

·         Establish project charters, execution strategies, change management and preliminary schedules, and budgets.

 

 

 

Decision Making:

·         Make informed decisions based on data, risk analysis, and business impact.

·         Develop and present business cases, feasibility studies, and conceptual designs to support investment decisions.

·         Facilitate resource allocation and set up integrated project team for smooth execution and decision making across core team, cross-functional steak holders, and external parties/suppliers/contractors.

 

 

 

Dealing with Ambiguity:

·         Navigate uncertainty in early project phases with confidence and clarity.

·         Influence strategic direction by integrating technical and project management insights into business needs.

 

 

 

Results Oriented:

·         Drive progress and accountability during the FEL stages.

·         Plan, organize, and execute functional programs that support capital projects to enhance technology, productivity, and capacity in Global Supply Chain Manufacturing and Distribution Network.

·         Facilitate design reviews, value engineering sessions, and risk workshops to optimize project outcomes.

·         Track project deliverables through the projects stages to ensure the final outcome is achieved as intended.

 

 

 

Interpersonal Savvy:

·         Build trust and alignment across technical and business teams.

·         Facilitate support contract preparation ensuring clear standard of work (SOW), deliverables, milestone payment, acceptance criteria, penalty terms, close-out requirements, and lessons learned.

·         Mentor engineering teams on FEL best practices and project development methodologies.

 

 

 

Ethics and Integrity:

·         Uphold company values in all project interactions.

·         Ensure alignment with corporate standards, safety, and sustainability goals during early project phases.

·         Establish, coordinate, and support stage gating program across network.

We’d love to hear from people with:

·         Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, or industrial)

·         7+ years in engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, or industrial)

·         7+ years in project management, with a strong emphasis on early-phase project development (FEL – Front End Loading)

·         Experience in consumer products or food manufacturing or distribution environments

·         Proven leadership of cross-functional project teams and external contractors

·         Expertise in FEL methodologies and stage-gate processes

·         Excellent communication and presentation abilities

·         Advanced project management skills (e.g., PMP certification preferred)

·         Ability to develop and review technical documents, proposals and statement of work (SOW)

·         Expertise in professional service contracts, equipment purchase contracts, and design build contracts

·         Proficiency in project management tools such as MS Project, MS Excel, Procore, or equivalent

·         Knowledge of AutoCAD, 3D Modeling or equivalent

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above.  For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity.  At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
